So, in the back of my mind I’ve been wondering if we might see a V8 Gladiator given the heat in the midsized truck market. Then, I came across a couple Jeep might do it articles I.e.: https://carbuzz.com/news/jeep-might-give-us-a-v8-powered-gladiator-after-all

Then, I watched this video on how the last of the Hemi Challengers and Chargers would be made in ‘23:

Now, I’m beginning to wonder if the industry (Jeep?) is turning chicken when it comes to making exciting vehicles more exciting. As well, part of me wonders if this is a case of when Old Coke was taken off the market for New Coke which made Old Coke sales sky rocket. Then, guess what, Coke changed the formula back to the Old which became the new New. Likely all a marketing stunt. So, what say you on the rumors?

No chance gladiator gets a v8 factory. Will get a 4xe version which will bump performance up substantially over what we have now, and will most likely get the tt v6.

A v8 though? Nah not in the cards when the tt v6 has higher output and better cafe numbers

Jeep won't give us a V8 JT because they know that's what we want

“Chicken out”? Doesn’t have a thing to do with having the cojones. Has everything to do with sales goals, meeting EPA mpg requirements, service considerations, etc.

PS: No, I doubt there will be a factory provided V8. But there WILL BE/ARE guys making them.

You'll see an electric Gladiator first. If there ever is a factory V8, it will be a limited run special edition.

With the TT inline 6 coming. Why would Jeep put a V8 in the Gladiator. Waste of time and resources.

GM bumped the HP and torque up on their 3L turbo diesel for '23. Jeep/Ram better do something with the Ecodiesel.

Does anyone care to take a guess at what the twin turbo straight 6 Gladiator will run us? My guess is i wont be able to justify buying it.

I heard the 8 speed can handle 500ish lbft in the 3.0. We will see I guess. 442 was a dream, loved that torque, miss it for sure.
My guess with GMs 430lbft Twins, Jeep will jump right into the inline 6 TT game hard. 4xe is great in all the battery tech moves as quick as phone tech. The inline 6 would be the only reason I would trade my Mojave. If Jeep doesnt step up the gas power game, the new 23’ GMC AT4X looks appetizing

Yup. Not going to happen.

If they were going to do it, the smart thing (my two cents) would have been to just make the 5.7L Hemi the base JT engine.

There wouldn’t have been a fuel economy hit (that’s a fairly efficient engine for what it is) and they can claim two torque monsters in one mid-size truck line.

I just find it hard to believe that there wouldn’t have been a way to make the 5.7L Hemi economically viable in the JT.

I’ll admit I don’t know much about long term reliability, but I remember the Cadillac Northstar V8 provided both decent gas mileage when around town or taking it easy, but also had V8 power when wanted it. Did that turn out to not work so well or have reliability issues? Maybe just expensive engineering?

i don’t need a 5.7 or 6.4 hemi. but i sure wish a smaller v8 with 300-320hp and 300-320ftlbs of torque was available. not a monster just a good strong pickup. i would be very interested in that if the price was reasonable. i cant afford a 392 wrangler or gladiator

Yeah, not seeing that happen. The only reason the 392 Wrangler came about was for Jeep to steal back some of the sunshine the new Bronco was getting.

The only reason I’m surprised that we haven’t seen either a 392 or 4XE JT is that you would assume at least some of the engineering for the JL could be directly applied to the JT. So in a way Jeep gets a 2 for 1 special from an engineering and parts perspective. I know that much is different between the models, but there’s a lot the same as well.
