I have a Scamp. The Casita's are nice, a little heavier than the scamp but well made in Texas.

Just completed a Miami to Spokane tow with a 6x12 cargo trailer. Trailer weight is about 2500lbs (mostly pots of dirt for my other half). Average MPG was 15.9 doing the speed limit most of the way. I’m sure I could have squeezed more mpg out of it by going a little slower but I had two cats and a woman in the truck. I stayed 5 under the speed limit when it was 80 mph.

I love this truck.

That looks like the Twin Falls area. :p

Did you take I-90 through MT? Curious how the JT did towing over the passes there.

No problems with the diesel getting through the mountains?

I did not have a single D rate the entire drive. To be fair I followed some simple directions from a member on this forum. I kept the engine running at fuel stops, on long hills I turned the cruise control off, and I did my best to keep it in 7th and 8th gear. There are a few long hills on 90 that I left the cruise on to see the what would happen, once it starts to shift to 6th gear the heat climbed pretty quickly. The maximum temps I saw for for oil was 257, trans 206, and coolant was 230ish. Ambient temps ranged from 70 to 97 on the drive.
I actually took a few picture of the temps all the way from Miami to Spokane. I’m not cool and don’t have the off road pages so it involved lots of not paying attention to the road. Made the girl pretty nervous so it was limited.

21 Mojave with a 2022 Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro E12SRK. Camper is 1725 dry.
Have only towed it home. Using a Curt Echo brake controller. Pulls nicely down the road but wants to shift a lot on the hills. After a few reads here I think I will shift it myself. Pretty stable behind the truck as well.
Like any newbie with a camper, I'll take any hints tips and tricks.
With that said, I have driven 18 wheelers, and my own personal 24 ft. enclosed trailer with a Silverado. So as far as towing, I'm not new.
This little trailer is a new experience though.

60 pages in this thread and not one person pulling a casita. I did see the scamps, though
Not that I am well versed in all things camper, but I had never heard of these until I read your post. They look pretty much just like the scamps. minus the odd 5th wheel

Yes, scamp, escape and casita are all very similar. We went with the Casita as the factory is 2 hours from home and are known for high quality product. Fingers crossed.

I take it you ordered a Casita?

I think the Casitas are well made. I've looked in one at a campground here in Ohio. They are a little heavier than the Scamp because the fiberglass completely surrounds the trailer as the Scamp has an epoxy covered wood bottom. Casitas I believe have 14 or 15" wheels which is a huge plus.

You will love your Casita. We ordered one and picked it up in May of 2019. We then took it on a 5000 mile trip out west. We pulled it with our 2019 Honda Pilot so I know you'll have no issues pulling it with your Jeep. We sold the Casita last year as we wanted something larger (my wife doesn't know how to travel light!) and the build quality on anything that is not one of these fiberglass molded campers is atrocious.

My dream rig is a 23' Oliver as it is basically a larger and fancier Casita, but with a price tag almost 4x higher. I miss our Casita so badly, it was such a good rig.

If you have any questions about the Casita while you wait, feel free to PM me!

Thanks. We sold our teardrop in may so this wait is killing me. We are really looking forward to having a place to stand up and change as well a middle of the night toilet. LOL

I hear you. We sold the trailer we replaced the Casita with (it was a NIGHTMARE and I was able to unload it for what I paid for it new) last month and these cool fall-ish morning are making me wish we still had it! My biggest advice with the Casita is to find a way to build out the front closet for storage. I have seen a few places online you can buy templates for cutting and building shelving. I think if we could have come up with a way to actually store and organize our things in that closet, it would have made our experience with the trailer that much better. What layout are you getting?
