So, what is everybody towing?

I hear you. We sold the trailer we replaced the Casita with (it was a NIGHTMARE and I was able to unload it for what I paid for it new) last month and these cool fall-ish morning are making me wish we still had it! My biggest advice with the Casita is to find a way to build out the front closet for storage. I have seen a few places online you can buy templates for cutting and building shelving. I think if we could have come up with a way to actually store and organize our things in that closet, it would have made our experience with the trailer that much better. What layout are you getting?

I plan on making shelves for the closet. We travel light and will just be me, the wife and a small dog. Hopefully a granddkid or two down the road as well. We are getting the spirit Deluxe, with almost all the options. I ordered the Glady to haul it with our ebikes in the bed. I figured once covid vaccines arrived, Casita would have a bunch of cancelations and our build date would move up. When we ordered it was an 11 month wait. Now they are at 14 months due to long line of orders. I hope we can find an open campsite once we get it. LOL

Spent the day airing up trailer tires (took them to 47 since max is 50) and truck tires (extra load means extra PSI in the tires - funny thing, it really didn't change the RIDE at all!).
And - loading up the car, strapping it down, getting things better centered, leveled and weighed the tongue.
The trailer is 1500 empty with no accessories. I figure a spare and a light tool box with straps and wrenches will add 100 pounds. That's 1600 pounds for trailer.
The specs for these cars sits right around 3200 pounds. It's stock save for the louvers, 4.0 and receiver hitch on the back but I'll call it 3200-3300
That means trailer loaded with car is 4800-4900.
Aluma says "tongue weight of 10 to 12%" on their trailers. That would mean just about 500 pounds with a top side of 576 pounds.

The pictures of the tongue scale may not be real easy to read but after 5 minutes of weighing it over and over and over and making sure it was perfectly centered on the scale, the scale was perfectly upright, etc. - it settled at 520 pounds every time.

Where the trailer tires and jack ended up is fairly level - so it's sitting nice and even in the garage.

Well, rented a travel trailer for a short weekend jaunt to Galveston this weekend with the family. We want to purchase a travel trailer but think it would be best to rent for a while to get a feel for what we really need. First time the Gladiator is towing something, a Keystone Springdale Mini 1800BH. When we buy we will get anti-sway/weight distribution but not an option for a rental so will be towing on the ball. Using a Curt Echo for the brake controller. It is only a 2 hour trip down to Galveston so shouldn't be too long a drive, plus there will be the needed stop at Buc-ees.

Made it FINE to AMC races/show/swap. Averaged 13.8 mpg at 65 most of the way. This is at rest area along the way.

The G with max tow pkg and wdh handled well. 10.5- 11.5 mpg. I will be happy even if I can only get 10 mpg, hey it's a truck!

My first longish tow. Not a lot of weight (1600 lbs) but was a little surprised at the MPG hit.
Averaged 16 mpgs towing up & back from the mountains.
Used to get 19 towing behind my Grand Caravan.
The Gladiator did seem to tow it easier than the Caravan, the 8 speed vs 6 speed trany is likely the reason.

Mine got BETTER mpg towing my loaded trailer than it got towing my trailer empty. An assumption on my part - but I wonder if it didn't see that empty trailer (1600-1700 pounds) as a real trailer back there while it saw 4900-5000 pounds as a real trailer?
Whatever the reason, I was impressed with 13.8 out of this Gladiator when my Chevy Silverado on the exact same trip struggled to hit 12.

21’ JTRD, at the end of my trip, 2.5 hrs N and back going 75 on the Northway ,dash showed 18.5 mpg. Certainly tows better than my 2 door JK, I’d be lucky to see 12 mpg similar trip.
