Purchased a set of JK rims and new tires but the tire holder at the end of the cable will not fit thru the center hole of the rim...
Cant return a new mounted tire, cant use the fifth rim, cant get back mounting, balancing and tpms install fees.

Jeep FMITA, Thanks Guys!!

Spend some money and then spend some more money!

You need the rear bumper with the swing away spare.

See? Problem solved!

I am great at spending other people’s money.

Looks like it is close and you have some room to play with on the plate...maybe some influence from a hammer and bend one side a bit....or if you have a vice that you can move, stick that plate in there and turn slow to start making a C shape until you can get it through. I do not know if you care if that plate is a little bent or not but just my .02 to help save ya some $. I am sure someone on here might have a better non-hillbilly way.

Let’s see, YOU bought JK wheels expecting them to work even though they have a smaller center bore, and it’s Jeep’s fault? Ok, now that I got that out of the way, why not just massage that piece with a grinder a little until it fits through?
Alternatively, cut a slot in the side of the plate so it will come off the cable. Put the cable through the wheel, then reinstall the plate.

You are right, Its my fault the bore sizes on wrangler rims vary.

I haven't measured the hole sizes. If the plate is close in size, you can grind it. If not close, I'd fabricate a mounting plate that would fit and just slide the original plate upwards, above the tire.

One of the (If not the only) reasons for the center bore change was to allow the wheel to fit over the Wrangler’s backup camera. Its unfortunate that you were not aware of that before buying those wheels. I’m sure there are several ways to get it to work with the wheels you chose. Best of luck with that, and post back what you work out so others who wind up in this situation know how to resolve it.

Cut the holder on one side just enough to slip it off the wire, problem solved! I had to do it!

I have similar problem and went with the same solution, which I had found here:

https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/35-spare-tire-issue.22785/page-2#post-356826

I'll admit that I'm not thrilled about my solution, from a safety perspective. From an engineering perspective, the bracket is designed to "never come off" the cable and stopper.

I'm not sure what SandSurfer thought, but when I looked at getting out the grinder to narrow down the bracket, but that seemed like it would weaken the bracket too much. If there were more substance to the bracket, it would have been more possible to take the grinder to it.

I've still not given up on a combination of welding (to make it thicker) and grinding (to make it thinner), but that's gonna require getting together with my Dad because it's far more than my weak skills can handle. :)

Hilarious! Small world.

BTW, for others researching this issue, I'm running AEV Pintler wheels, which I love other than this little challenge.

Looking at this as a fix for my spare, have you had any problems with the bar losing integrity and strength?

for strength, I would make a new saddle with a removable piece so I could slide it onto the cable but it would not come off.
