Has anyone else had any issues with premature wear on the steering wheel?

The leather on the top of my wheel looks like a car that has 100k miles on it, not 8800.

Maybe I just got some bad leather

Would this be covered under warranty?

Just a thought here... I had a wheel custom wrapped in Leather for another vehicle about 2 years ago based on my design.

The shop that did it specifically stated that hand sanitizer was one of the biggest killers of leather steering wheels. And, this was well before COVID when we all started using it every 2 seconds.

So, although I have a leather wheel in my Jeep, I am very conscious of making sure my hands are as dry as possible after using hand sanitizer (which is a necessary nowadays) to try to minimize any issues with the leather.

No choice on my Rubicon JT, but I would have preferred a non leather wrapped steering wheel like on the Sport, when I need leather wrapped I wear gloves.

Agreed. I hate leather steering wheels.

At 20k, my steering wheel doesn't look horrible, but is showing signs of wear. I assume there are options when the leather finally goes?...

21K miles. Mine looks good.
Got a dog?? My son’s Ram steering wheel went to Hell soon after he got it. Whenever he would leave his big Pointer in the truck for a few minutes the dang thing would hop into the drivers seat and rest his sloppy jaws on the wheel. The slobber ate the leather up!

Are you using lotion or something on your hands? Chemicals tends to break down leather faster.

Some people just have higher pH levels in their sweat which also leads to leather breaking down faster.

Try using a good leather conditioner and protectant often.

As stated above... leather cleaner/conditioner often. Chemical Guys actually makes an AIO leather product called 'Sprayable Leather'. I've had super good luck with it and it's impossibly easy to use... positive side effect - it smells like fresh brand new leather, so nice.

ALSO... good choice on the tunes! Classic country is the only way to go!

Are you parking outside and it's taking a lot of sun? That might not be helping either

If you are wearing rings they could also scratch and/or damage the leather.

Well, I live in Arizona

I thought of that as well, but I haven't even had this truck for 6 months

Yeah, I thought of that, but I wear one of those silicon rings because I'm terrified of losing my finger:LOL:

This thread has incited my curiosity; if a JT/JL non-leather wrapped steering wheel could be swapped out with a leather wrapped steering wheel.
