The goal/purpose of business is not to employ people.
Pretty much this. Employees are just another managed expense the same as paying utilities, taxes and other tertiary things. Wages are the compensation for time and labor already expended and not a guarantee of future employment beyond what has already been compensated for.

Regarding whining about what a CEO makes, when I was a couple of years into my first "real job" after graduating college back in the late 80's, I saw one of our Exec. VP's (our top salesman and the right-hand man of the founder/CEO) come rolling into the parking lot one morning in a shiny new red Ferrari Testarossa. After I picked my chin up off the pavement and wiped the drool off my face, I went to my desk and looked up his salary in the most recent Annual Report (public company) and later complained to an older, much wiser coworker about how he made X times more than I did (I forget the exact numbers now, but obviously it was a LOT more) and how he couldn't possibly be working X times harder/longer than me, etc. - a lot of the same whining we're hearing from the auto workers and their supporters now. My co-worker replied with something to the effect of "As long as he does his job well enough to keep this company successful and earning enough money to keep paying me MY salary and keep MY job secure, I couldn't care less what they pay him or what he drives." Wise words indeed... and I have never forgotten them. THAT should be the focus here. An autoworker's pay should not be relative to the CEO's salary - or the UAW president's salary, or anyone else's pay level! It should be relative to the rest of the industry (including those at non-union plants!). MY pay is based on the industry average for my particular job - in the region I live in - and it's very fair. I don't know what the CEO of my company makes - and I don't care - as long as he does his job well enough for the company to keep me employed.

I obviously don't know all the factors at play here as I don't work in a union shop or anywhere in the auto industry, but in my opinion, if the UAW continues to hold the automakers hostage with these (what I feel are) excessive demands, it will just cause more jobs to be replaced with robots and/or moved to Mexico or somewhere else where labor is cheap - and these UAW workers will end up out of a job entirely. At the very least, it will cause auto prices for vehicles built at those UAW plants to increase to the point where they will be at a cost disadvantage against their competitors and sales will suffer - resulting less demand... fewer vehicles built... and ultimately lost jobs. They need to be looking at the bigger picture here rather than the short term - and focus on what their job is really worth rather than how much profit the company is making for the shareholders and what the executives are earning. Just my $0.02 (and it's probably not worth THAT).

Yeah I get it. The academy hyped you up to be a victim in order to justify gearing you up like a paramilitary unit with qualified immunity, meanwhile there's some poor schmuck trapped behind a counter and in most cases completely defenseless. At least if you're engaged, you're tooled up and have a Fighting Chance.
But the convenience store workers have "significantly less" risk. GTFOH.
Oh dang, I wish you'd told me 10 years ago it was just the Academy hyping me up for an imaginary danger, it's not even real!

I'm glad I'm just a cop pulling a stolen Glock 22 w/auto switch off a banger, two weeks before that a Taurus G2 w./extended mag, and then a Glock 17 off another kid days before that.

I can't fathom the dangers lurking for the average guy unloading milk crates off a truck, or the person selling shoes at the mall, or the guy retrieving shopping carts at Home Depot. Crap, don't I feel like a dunce. Thankfully there are people such as yourself that are vastly more intelligent than me and with a way better grasp on reality to set guys like me straight.

Anyway, you're clearly right, so I guess we can let this rest and get back to discussing why CEOs should be paid less than milk delivery men in the 60's.

In every city, the majority of officers (I'm going to say 95%) are normal people that want to do right, stick their necks out to protect people and go home at night
In all my years I have never met one of these mythical officers. I learned a very long time ago, you never willingly interact with cops. Don't call them for any reason, and absolutely never, under any circumstance, talk to them.

And unsurprisingly, the further left the local government is, the more you see the brown-shirt thuggery attitude start to peak out.
These people are rewarded for that attitude and conduct, its how you see them rise to the top leadership. They get this attitude where all people are beneath them and should be kissing their boots. And you can guess where they seem to thrive. Yup, you guessed it. They love them a dem city gov. They are also the quickest to turn a blind eye and fastest to take bribes.
I'm sure the fact that police are overwhelmingly right wing and members of groups like the pride boys and loaf keepers has nothing to do with why they act like assholes and think everyone is the enemy in left leaning areas lol

Maybe you're right about politcal leanings of officers. It would make sense as to why most major media corporations having been trying to destroy local police for over 2 decades.

They've been doing a pretty good job of it themselves, it's like they still don't realize there are cameras everywhere lol

That's the excuse they will use. They were going to raise the prices no matter what.
Prices will level off after production is moved to Mexico........Which will be perfect, because it should be right about the time I'm ready to buy a new one:)
Well... I'm ready to move mine all nice and built up, bids starting at MSRP just let me know.

I engage police officers all the time either to say hello and thank you or ask a question or two. I always show respect and make sure when they are seated in the car it is ok to approach. That being said they usually help me more than I expected. In a true emergency when they are rushing to help people in harm's way I cannotfor the life of me see them thinking about race and political affiliation of the victim. Also we all know if you really need them you are calling.
