11,000 miles, hard top back window leak claim still pending an approval from Jeep for a replacement and I’m with my kids this morning buying some plants to plant with them. We are done, ready to head home, turn on the Glad and it feels like I have a flat tire or am driving a diesel truck this thing was idling so hard. Called service manager who knows me well at this point, explain to him my ECL is blinking and the auto stop start is on non stop and it is driving like I have a flat tire…he says it sounds like a misfire issue (maybe a spark plug) and to bring it in Monday morning…not happy about this, was planning to purchase off lease. Truck was built 8/2019…honestly I have had zero mechanical issues in the 11000 miles I put on it…is this a known issue and if so what’s my future look like? Very disappointed bc The whole family loves the truck…
Update: took it in this morning, it was #6 cylinder solenoid and spark plug, replaced both and got truck back same day. I guess only time will tell if this is going to be a chronic issue. Also my rear glass replacement was approved by Jeep today so have to bring her back in a couple of weeks to get the glass in the hardtop replaced. Hopefully will be done after this.

CODE BLOWN: P302 - #2 Cylinder Misfire

The first sign something was weird was when passing on the highway outside of town heading to our favourite camping site for the long weekend last Thursday, truck normally went into overdrive, RPM shot up as normal, then there was a vibration sound, lack of power and the wife said "What the heck was that??" No CEL at this time. I backed off and it normalled out. Then the next day, (friday), came back in to town for work and gather up some remaining camping necessities like beer and more munchies to go back out late in the day and I went to pass again on the freeway, RPM shot up, truck vibrated uncontrollably, lost power, CEL FLASHING and dinging. I pulled back the throttle, ECL stopped flashing and dinging stopped and I drove straight to my dealership with one hour to spare before they closed. Luckily, they put a tech on it to read the engine code.

Tech says its showing P302 which is #2 cylinder misfire. Booked it in for this morning and they said if I take it easy on the road, I would be ok to go back out to the camp site for the long weekend. Their plan is to get at the intake today and take off all the bits and perhaps change out the coils. Go from there.

I dropped it off this morning and asked my advisor if they've read this forum. He didn't but was interested to know what's being said for the fix. So I gave him the run down that summed it all up to the 'shotgun list':
-FCA buy back
-Engine replacement
-Camshaft replacement
-ECM replacement
-Coil replacement
-Injector replacement
-Plugs replacement

He says, "so they don't know what's causing it then?"

I asked him if he had all the parts like coils and bits because if they tear it down and then note that parts are on a extended wait ETA, they are to put it all back together and give the truck back in working order as it was when I drove it in and we can wait till parts arrive.

Got fingers and toes crossed I get it back at the end of the day.... at least I got a shuttle ride home.

Mine (2021, Dec build, 6MT) has been sitting for 25 days now waiting on a valve cover gasket. Anyone else waiting on this part? Dealer says oil leaked onto O2 sensor causing the codes which seems to be accurate from what I’ve seen others say. I’m only around 6000 miles or so. They say they are waiting on FCA for the part. I like the truck apart from the anemic power and poor gear ratios so I don’t think I want to lemon it…this is only the first time I’ve ever taken it for service but we are getting close to 30 days.
Got mine back after 28 days. No codes so far maybe 100 miles or so. Can’t help but feel the truck still seems sluggish but maybe my imagination. They did the manual trans ECU update without asking but I guess the gear indicator in the dash was a cool surprise.

I studied this Board for 2 months. I saw no one say their misfire was fixed. If there was a known fix, FCA would have tried it on my truck.
You missed them, then - I recently saw one that was resolved. I believe they mentioned cam, and/or phasers.
But what fixed it for THAT truck may not have fixed yours as the root cause seems to vary. So like I said - if they replace spark plugs and that fixes one - it won't mean it will fix another - the next one might misfire due to a cam issue, so they replace that and associated parts and that one is fixed...... but that may not work on the next. Seems to be a complex set of issues and you are still looking for a simple one fix fixes all approach.

Got the truck back the next day. Tech replaced the #2 injector. Truck ran great for about 3 hours then it all blew up again on the freeway,…shaking, engine light flashing, dinging. The ECL would self heal then flash and ding again then self heal then come back on…

I have to take it back again! F#%¥k

So I know I'm gonna jinx myself but f/u on my misfire issues, The Dealer back in May had replaced the Cam and so far no problems no CEL's or start/stop errors noted and it runs like a new vehicle so looks like the fix worked here, they did find I needed a new radio but that's on order. Thank You Safford Jeep of Fredericksburg. If jeep cares could call them and thank them also might make the dealer feel better after i went in ready to tear some arse up.

Hope you didn’t jinx it, but we do know my injector fix lasted 3 hours and your cam fix has last 3 months so far….knocking on my wood leg.

Was this their first and only so far fix attempt for your misfire problem? How long was your truck in the shop for?

Getting P0300 and auto stop start unavailable message, misfire. Semi rough idle at 800rpm. Drives fine though, may be a little sluggish. Manufacture date 02/2020, Rubicon.

Taking into dealer with TSB 18-024-21 (see attached) in hand expecting a cam replacement, software update and gaskets. Will ask them to check plugs and rockers but that's up to them.

It seems everyone in my exact situation who has taken theirs in since this TSB was posted march 6th 2021, with no other codes or symptoms who has had their camshaft replaced has either posted it was resolved or stopped posting here so I would assume it's resolved. Here is a copy of the TSB but it only applies to JTs made before July 10th 2020, I would assume that is when they applied a fix to the flaw in the assembly line.

No, I've left this up to the dealership - which honestly - they haven't done a single thing about the CEL/P0300 - Every time we take it to them they tell us they aren't able to recreate the code. Well no kidding! It has been so random and sporadic - but shame on Jeep!

My question is this - If I've taken my Jeep to the service center with this CODE why aren't they applying this FIX???????

I’m my case the engine light misfire would stick if I didn’t baby it. I’d be on the highway cruising at 80-100klm/h, stomp on the gas peddle, shoot the RPM’s up and BOOM, major malfunction, shaking, dinging noise, ECL light flashing then went solid.
Second time it happened the ECL light self healed. I knew if I took it back in then the techs wouldn’t see anything so just before I got there I stomped on the throttle at highway speed till the drama started all over again and then it was 5 min later I’m at the dealership with an ECL light on and my own oil analysis in hand proving a coolant leak in my oil since day one. I’ve linked it to the misfires to which there is no heart on the dealership to investigate but after this cam fix the truck is going elsewhere where they feel they can investigate the leak and do something about it.

Don’t leave anything up to the dealership when they have no mandate to investigate, and…they don’t pay the mortgage on it and no vested interest in it.

I hooked my bluetooth OBD adapter to my wife's Grand Cherokee last fall, connected my phone running AlfaOBD and sat in the driveway with her Jeep running - recorded misfires, then took it for a drive - phone still connected, recording misfires. I kept the log.
I got it home, printed the log, disconnected everything and I drove it to the dealership. About 2/3 of the way there her Jeep settled down and smoothed out.
MIL never came on!!! Even though the thing bucked like a rodeo bronco.

When they asked what I was there for, I showed them the printout of the log clearly showing misfires. No codes were set, MIL not on, never came on, not once. But I had the misfires recorded as well as all conditions at that time - air temperature, open or closed loop operation, pages and pages of detailed information.
Lucky me - the thing had settled and they weren't able to make it misfire except ONE time, it missed just once. But they had the history and log of what conditions were when it misfired - and it clearly said "ignition" each time.

They resolved it based on my logs and a little known TSB related to Grand Cherokee 3.6 misfires.

I lay that all out because I believe that for those where no code is saved and no MIL requested by the ECU that some may try to do some logging themselves - try to nail it down, at least find if it's ignition, fuel, whatever, and what conditions exist at the time of the misfire or issues.

If those who this is happening to have jscan or AlfaOBD and a BT OBD adapter- might be worth trying to capture some data.

Otherwise - check out the thread where I'm asking if anyone with the mystery misfire has had to add coolant to their JT.
