Does it idle really rough? Quite a few of us with the P0300 are experiencing a rough idle. There could be multiple issues here.
It seems to idle just fine in my opinion. Granted, my last car was a Honda Civic. So, my JT runs a little rougher than that, but not to the point where I thought it would be concerning.

My wife called the dealership today and told them that the CEL went off and that the code was read and it was the same as last time. They cancelled the appointment and told her not to come in unless it comes on again.

?????
Hey, Gunny. If your state has Lemon Laws like mine, you DEFINITELY want to take it in when the CEL comes on, even if it goes back off. In Kansas, four visits to the dealership for the same issue within the first year is a qualifier for a replacement vehicle.

As for me, it's been just almost 1K miles since my last visit where the left side of the engine was almost entirely replaced - no issues as of yet. However, I will still be looking into being provided an extended warranty by FCA given the circumstances.

So the first time we took the vehicle to the dealer all they did was clear the code. Does this count towards them attempting to fix the problem? I’ll have to reschedule an appointment.

at this point, early on, I just feel like there isn’t a fix for the issue.

Gunny,
Here in Washington, they get 4 attempts to "fix the problem". I took mine in yesterday with 620 miled on it so they could log it and start a case on it.

The thing to remember is that if thel lemon law your vehicle, you still have to pay for "usage" from original miles until the first attempt so if you wait for the problem to happen again and again, there is no record of a fix attempt.

At 600 miles, it's 350 bucks here in Washington State. If it gets to 1000 miles before a repair attempt, it would be 420 dollars and so on. Each state has different lemon laws so make sure to get everything documented properly.

Well, Finally got mine back from Dealer. Dropped there on June 29, it took until August 5. Have to say that Gladiator feels completely different, running very smooth and quiet, let's see for how long. Pics of details attached. What the tech did is in Spanish being that I live in Puerto Rico. I will write below in English for your reference. Basically they had to install a second head and valve cylinder because the first one they received was even worse that the on the jeep had installed.

Translation of Tech notes. Hope this helps all of you.

"
1140 a diagnosis of the unit was made, finding the present code P0300 multiple misfire, then a pressure test was performed on the injectors, coil swap and pulse of coils and spark plugs, but continued with misfire. Then a compression test and leak down were performed, proceeding to send via email gas engine diagnostic sheet and vehicle scan report to Jaxiel Rodriguez, who indicated to replace the block cover since the information obtained in the tests carried out under the diagnosis sheet. Replacement of the left block cover, block gasket and timing and intake kit upper and lower, oil change and coolant irrigation with vacuum to the cooling system were carried out. Then the unit was turned on, which took time to turn on and when it turned on it found a strong engine failure. We proceeded quickly to notify a chrysler technician who indicated to proceed to make a diagnosis again, which was obtained in the compression test in cylinder # 2 0 and in # 4 160 # 6 165, then a leak down test was performed, obtaining in cylinder # 2 80% leakage while in cylinder # 4 20% and # 6 20%. Due to what was found, a Chrysler technician was notified again indicating that with the information obtained, the left block cover was replaced again. The left block cover was changed again together with the block joint due to the parameters obtained in the tests carried out. After carrying out the installation, the cooling system was emptied and the coolant irrigated. Then the unit was turned on, which turns on correctly and at the moment operating completely normal but a slight limp is felt in the unit. This is notified to the Chrysler technician indicating to make the available flash related to a misfire present. After carrying out the flash, a road test is carried out, which finds the unit operating correctly. At the time test 1140 start mileage, test 1182 arrival mileage.

All good at the moment."

I am about 3 weeks since the computer update. No CEL since. But I still get the ESS needs service most mornings after backing out of driveway. Resets after restart. Any ideas?

Verify supplementary battery. That one serves the Auto Start system. Dealer should replace it if not holding charge.

That’s common but not “normal.” I finally had mine replaced because of that. They found out that the supplementary battery was good. PS-in the mountains for the next week. I have about 600 miles on the second a Gladiator with not one malfunction lamp yet. Psychologically, I’ll feel better once we pass 800 miles and up.

Does the Auto Stop Start light also come on? If so, and if the supplemental battery checks out okay, the engine may be misfiring upon start up where it throws a “pending” PO300 engine misfire code that disables the auto stop start system, but does not turn on the check engine light. My Gladiator is in the shop now for the issue I just described. Also, the engine has a rough idle upon initial startup. I am awaiting a report on next steps.

So I just noticed this today as well. The Auto Start/Stop light came on and then on a subsequent start up it was off. The vehicle has a rough idle on startup but not all the time.

I am so frustrated with this vehicle. I have 70k miles on my 2011 Tundra and not one issue. I have a 7” lift and 37” tires on 20” wheels. Not a single problem.

I have less than 1500 miles on this Jeep and now I find myself looking for a CEL every time I’m driving it.

UNNACCEPTABLE JEEP!

And to top it off - service has no idea what’s going on, nor does Jeep. And sales is selling them knowing full well there is an issue that is not resolved.

There have been stop-sales for far less.

I smell a potential class action.

So the dealer called and said Engineering wants me to drop off my truck so they can perform remote tests with the technician. After the software update I think my occurrence of the ESS light has happened way more often. CEL has been on and stayed on. One time while moving the Jeep in my driveway the idle got so bad I thought the engine was going to touch the hood (first time for this). Shut it off /restarted and everything was fine. Being a machine builder I know things go wrong, however its how the manufacturer responds that keeps people coming back for more in the future. This engine is used in all sorts of vehicles but I could only find info about this problem on the Gladiator website which I find odd. If you go back to 2012 there was a similar problem which resulted in the left head getting replaced. Maybe its the same cause?

I started this post and have been riding out & enjoying my JT since the last time it was in the dealer at 700 miles. I still get the occasional A! Light but have not had the CEL light since. I now have 7200 miles on it and it has seemed to fix itself. Yes I feel an occasional rough idle at some start up but I'm not willing to have my vehicle sit at the dealer for months without a fix. If the issue is not resolved by FCA before my 3/36k warranty is up then I will push the issue hard. But for now i have noticed almost nothing since 700 ish miles. I have even had an increase in mileage from 14mpg to almost 17mpg at times.
Read my post on this thread.. if you have no noticable symptoms then drive it and keep it out of the shop where they have no clue how to fix it. Hell it might just resolve itself over time like mine has.
Anyone here have more than 7500 miles and still having the CEL & A! Light?
We had it until over 10,000 miles, including replacement of tappet arms twice, head twice, cam (broken) once. Traded it and have not had problems with the current one. Yes, we did disclose the problems to the dealer when we traded it). Out of service 52 days in 4 months.
Cam broke on a trip 300 miles from home and had to be left at the nearest dealer. There are about 50 Gladiators on this site with the same reported problems. One dealer thought it was defective heads. (I am sure he meant the mechanical part not the corporate heads.}Love the vehicle, hope JEEP figures it out and does the right thing for all the loyal owners.

Mine has been at the dealership since June 4th...I'm in the same boat. I cannot even get a return call from the dealership or customer service. This has been the most piss poor customer service and consumer experience ever.
