So it’s confirmed, they stopped installing these in 2023. I’m beginning to think someone at the factory forgot to include these on the 2023 assembly line. Lets see if the 2024s have them.
More than likely they did it for the same reason they left off the motor covers on the 3.6: to save a few bucks.

The difference is, that engine cover has no operational significance. Its simply just for asthetics.

The tailgate hinge lock, however does have an operational purpose. For those of you without it, try opening the tailgate with an upward motion. You’ll find that the tailgate will lift right off the hinge, since nothing is holding it in. A safety hazard? Perhaps a recall is in order?

That’s what I did. It was more so that I stop accidentally pulling the tailgate out of that cam lock hinge.
This is interesting because the Tacoma tailgates are made to be removed although you have to disconnect the wiring.

My 24 Ram did not come with one and it only has 5k miles and pulls out when I open the tailgate. I'm going to find something because not really wanting to use a hose clamp.

Huh. So it’s an assembly mistake? Wouldn’t Jeep replace the part if missing?
It must be purposeful since my 2024 JTR built 1/28/24 does not have it.

Yeah like the clutch recall. Let’s all start holding our breath now.

Nope. 1/28/24. Not there.

The normal operation of the tailgate won't cause any problems.
Try proving that the lack of the stop is an intrinsic & significant safety hazard and warrants a recall.

Besides my Gladiator and an old 81 Toyota, I've never owned a pickup that the tailgate didn't just lift off, so to speak. That would include several Dodge Rams and Chevy full sizes.

My 2022 model built Dec ā€˜21 has it, and is my first truck to ever have a tailgate hinge lock. Every truck I’ve owned starting since 1974 dodges have had tailgates that just lift off. I always thought it was a pretty nifty feature!

I'm getting a hose clamp for mine. I loaded a fan in my bed the other day and didn't slam the tailgate hard enough. I felt a thump after a few blocks and figured it was the fan sliding. Got to my sister's house and was backing in and the camera was looking at the license plate rather than behind the truck! I'm lucky I didn't loose the gate when it bounced open.

My 2023 JT is the first pickup that I've ever owned that the tailgate isn't able to be simply removed.

I found this out a few months ago, the hard way, as I went to remove mine.

To say I was stunned, is an understatement.
