ok, I am posting here because its about the EcoDiesel. I know that the internet if full of mostly the negatives about a product. There are several happy owners out there. I am not so much concerned about the issues I am reading about so much as the down time related to the supply Chain. The JT will be my DD and I cant afford to lose it to the shop for an extended period waiting on parts. And from what I am reading there's no guarantee of a loaner depending on the issue. We are downsizing so where I normally would have another vehicle to use in the event one is in the shop that will no longer be the case. I just hope I am not setting myself up for failure with this order as much as I am excited about being back in a jeep.... Thoughts...

Not sure what can be done to help you but you can check with your dealers if they have parts and what's the turnaround.
From what I've been seeing most of these issues are in the West, not the East. And who knows, maybe we get a shortage of the 3.6 parts as well. I know there are shortages of body panels etc if you get into an accident. So whatever way you spin it, we are F'd.

I've had 2 of the new Gen 3 EcoDiesels and both of them spent weeks in the shop at low mileage for the dreaded timing cover oil leak.

On the Jeep specifically, repair is a nightmare because there is zero room to work under the hood like there is on the Ram. So any repairs that the engine needs in the Jeep will take longer and cost more (if it's out of warranty).

When I was driving the EcoDiesels for the last few years, my fear was always the fuel system. The Bosch CP4 has a terrible reputation and there are lots of members with failures on Jeeps and Rams, though maybe not as severe as with the Ram HD trucks, but it does still happen and that repair can be months instead of weeks.

It's just the nature of the beast. The diesel engine is awesome, but the risk of lengthy repairs is higher simply because it's a much more complex and expensive engine.

Supply chain on everything is still a joke. I currently drive an Audi A4 and it's been a great vehicle (10 years). Go on their forums and you'll have nightmares. It's like when you have the sniffles and you Google it you see much worse than the typical condition. That all being said I totally understand your concerns but could have issues with the gas as well.

Again with the youtube drama....
"dreaded timing cover leak". What is dreaded about it? We have warranty. You take it in, they do all the hard work and replace a gasket. It's not like you have to do anything. It was your choice to have the truck sit at the dealer instead of dealing with it at a more favorable time.

And it's not even that big of a deal, all new cars leak. I've had VW, BMW, Mercedes with leaks in the first 5000 miles. It's a non critical issue. You know what's dreaded? Oil leak into the wiring harness on my Mercedes 5.5 Biturbo engine. That is dreaded.
And you know what's common in those two trucks you had? You used shitty Quaker oil in both.
You also said you had "fear". Did you have a failure or did you just get anchored by reading forums?
I understand there are failures but this is because of the low lubricity of diesel, cured by using an additive.

Again lots of hearsay around here, and I dislike the great diesel engine is getting a lot of negative reviews despite any ENGINE FAILURES like the 3.6 has with engine replacements.

@WXman don't let the door hit you since you no longer drive a Jeep.

I just picked up my '22 JTSD two weeks ago. It arrived just prior to Christmas from the factory and had a fuel injection pump issue before I could even pick it up. Threw a Check Engine Light on the way to the car wash 2 hours before I was due to get it. Took a month and hours on the phone with Jeep Customer Care to get it fixed as the part was on "indefinite back-order."

Now that it's fixed, it's been fine so far, but I've only put a few hundred miles on it. Given the supply challenges getting any kind of parts, not to mention the reliability concerns, I'm nervous. My Gladiator is NOT my daily driver. I have another car - and the Jeep is purely for leisure. If it were my daily, I probably would not have gone diesel given what I've been reading.

It really seems like a crap shoot. I hope mine ends up being fine now.

Bro, its a jeep. IDK if dependable can be in the same sentence. I have both diesel and gas and neither has any issues for now. worse case i take another car for the day.

if you don't have a second car and zero flexibility then look for something else.

agreed, a Honda CR-V or Toyota something or other. 1~2 years old so all bugs were worked out.

My JTRD has been reliable for 15,000 miles. My dealer does loaners or puts you in a rental.

I'm not trying be all doom and gloom but I have been on many forums over the years for various vehicles and just seems there's a lot of growing pains with the JT and I took an honest look at what we needed and the JT seems to fit the bill for various reasons we shall see....
