Well, I hated to do it but I had to re-home my Mojave X. I had a blast with that truck but it had to go or I was going to have to build a Jeep Barn (wow, that sounds like a dream come true). I sold the 2-door Rubi X also. I have the 392 and I added a sidekick. A 2006 TJ just like the one I had 20 years ago! It needs TLC so I have some fun garage times coming up.

I'm out of space too, but I've elected to build a garage. I haven't figured out if it will be a 2 - 3 bay garage, but I'm definitely going to build one. 👍

Easier and more cost effective to do a 3-bay now than a 2-bay and then add a third when you run outta space. Next house is going to have a minimum of 2 with potential for a detached workshop/man cave.

Glad I am not the only one attached to his vehicles. Sad to see any of the stalwart service vehicles run out of service life.
(I have a 6 stall garage)

If you want good sized go BIG. If you want big go HUGE!!! That’s the rule with building a garage. Mine is in the planning stages right now and it’s up to a 30x60 with 12’ lean to on each side. 14’ sidewalls with a roof pitch change at the lean to on both sides. I thought I’d just go with a simple 2-3 car garage until I got on one of those builder things that lets you put stuff in the garage to see how it fits. 2-3 car garage would allow for parking vehicles in but limits storage. And of course you need man room for “projects”. And the tractor needs a good home. And what it ifs raining and you need to do cuts on a full sheet of plywood? Things to consider…

I'm lucky, I have a 3 bay garage AND a BIG RV garage building with doors front and back with an open parking area next to it and no RV, or ANY plans to get one. I figure the RV garage will be able to handle at least two projects sooo, I'm contemplating the possibilities as we speak.

As was said above go big or go home!

I built this when I was still in construction now it houses some of my toys…6000 sf. Part of it has hvac and a 1 bdrm apartment. The problem is that it is in VA and I live in NC now so I have a drive to get there…

I've never had a garage. Work happens in the carport and I own a lot of tarps to cover stuff up 😂

My wife wants the detached garage to match the home, so it will be a log garage to match a log home. The plan is to build either a 2 or 3 bay garage with 600 sq. ft. of living quarters. Each bay will be wide and deep. The 600 sq. ft. will give us a place to live while building the home. Once the home is complete, the 600 sq. ft. of living space will turn into something else. The garage will have a bathroom, shower, water heater, sink, kitchenette, etc. The property is located at 7,100' feet, so there's no need for central air.

It will be a second home for us. We probably won't keep more than two vehicles at this property location. Although, the John Deere 875R is about the size of a compact truck.

Mine is in the planning stages right now and it’s up to a 30x60 with 12’ lean to on each side. 14’ sidewalls with a roof pitch change at the lean to on both sides.
I'd like to have a larger building to store the travel trailer, tractors, etc.

How far apart (miles/hours) are the two locations?

When I owned my custom home construction company we did what you’re doing several times. It made for a great property and, if you wanted, a nice guest suite.

we are about 3 hours away..

If you tried that in my neck of the woods you'd be a big melted glob on the blacktop in minutes...

What’s worse is when you HAVE a garage but for whatever reason you can’t use it to work on vehicles. We started letting our feral cat out a bit ago and it was great to be able to get in the garage again. Then he up and disappeared for a day and came back with ANOTHER injury. So he is back in lock up while he heals. Need to build him an enclosure so he can go get his outside time without getting eaten by wildlife.

Attached garage is primarily for the wife anyway. I usually do all my work on the concrete pad outside of it. Rest of the drive is recycled concrete and laying on that stuff is like paying a major penance for being alive.

That's good to hear. Home building is a pretty slow process in my neck of the woods, plus very expensive. I've budgeted $250,000 just for the garage and living quarters. That's doesn't include the well, electric, or septic.

That not too bad. Here in the Mountain West, I'd love to have a second home no further than 300 miles (5 hours) apart.
