You guys are 100% correct that it is a risk... The new car market may never come down, but I do know dealerships cant charge over window forever. I am in the industry and the dealer that I buy my trucks from buys used wholesale vehicles from us, so with our working relationship I am confident that I can get a decent price in the future.
as a side motivator, I have been wanting to buy a rental property for quite sometime, and not having a car payment (even if it is just briefly) should help me secure the mortgage and prime rate easier.
Also now that I have owned a gladiator for a while I feel there are some things I wish I did differently. I am pretty sure my next one will be automatic for example. I love manual transmissions, but The reality is that it is easier for my family to drive the vehicle with an auto, and since I use my truck as a work truck, an auto would be much better for towing in traffic.... stop and go with a load is terrible...
I sincerely appreciate the comments and your opinions have given me a few different angles to look at this from that I did not consider.

Call me tin foil hat-ed, but this will be the last generation of a jeep with a manny gearbox and a n/a v6/8. The control systems in the truck are complicated(on a base) but not impossible to troubleshoot. This will also be the last generation to not have big data analytics and evasive nanny features applied to the vehicle in whatever service form it comes in for the us market anyways. I'd imagine they will also add a dpf equivalent system for the gassers to meet our aggressive target emmisions. They will probably add additional taxes as well to own such a vehicle. This combined with material shortages and inflation will make a new base version of this truck cost in the high 40's new in 2-4 years.

Is it worth it? No. Carvana would probably give you a better offer anyways. It's worth it if you want to ls swap your ranger though lol.

If the ranger is even moderately reliable, I'd part with the Glady near instantly if it meant better enabling me to move on a property, especially in this market, and I LOVE my truck. Fast forward 1 year and custom order something at whatever % off invoice can be had by the hero dealer closest to you and get exactly what you want while having access to the latest features, colors, etc. Fast forward 2 years and who knows what they'll end up stuffing into this incredible platform. Laugh all the way to the bank post tenant lease while sipping on gas in the ranger!

If that's the case, get rid of it. Life is too short to wish you did things differently. Go out there and do them differently.

Every bit of this is what I am thinking aside from the ranger sipping.... it has the 4.0 and guzzles like like my uncle frank at the pub.

The problem with trying to time any market is that even if you are ultimately right, the market can keep being wrong for a long time.

I wouldn't sell unless the money was going to change my life or the vehicle was being a problem.

I have a gladiator sport s max tow with almost 17k miles. dealer offered me 4K over what my loan started at, so I switched to a rubicon with all the seats, color, radio and parts I wanted for under 50k I think it was worth it. Never had a Jeep that I used, took to a dealer and it appreciated over purchase price.

My thoughts based on what you've said so far:
  1. If you are leaning toward selling it because you wish you did things differently, then it sounds like you really want to trade it rather than just get rid of it.
  2. If you're good with one vehicle, why isn't the Ranger on the block instead?
  3. It makes sense for trying to break into the real estate market, but there may be better ways about that in terms of refinancing or trading the Jeep. Think about this: Sell the Ranger for a price you'll never ever get on it again. Take that money and your Gladiator and trade to the Gladiator you really want. Consider ordering one rather than buying off the lot so you aren't paying dealer lot markups. All that equity you're putting into the transaction should significantly lower your payment.
Option #3 is great because the end result is the Gladiator you really wanted with a much lower payment that allows you to get into the real estate market. Only thing you have to give up is the old Ranger, but you'll never get as much equity out of it as you will today so that's not really a loss. It's a Win-win-win.

Given that you didn’t get exactly what you wanted AND you already have another ride AND you’re trying to buy a property I say sell it but I would have them pay the total price (including tax etc.) that you paid for it…if they balk why don’t you just sell it privately? You’ll almost always get more that way.

You’re in the drivers seat so to speak!

Hey guys, so I have owned my Gladiator since March and have put 20k miles on it (alot I know). The dealer I purchased it from called me offering to buy it for what I paid for it.... Seems like a deal too good to pass up. When can you drive 20k miles in such a sweet ride and pay nothing aside from tax? I think I am going to accept and drive this older ranger until the market corrects itself then order a new one.... Am I crazy?

Only way I'd do it is if you were ordering and waiting to put the money back into the "dream vehicle" or they had what you wanted on the lot. Nothing wrong with "living with" the Ranger, but more than likely you'll want to get out of it and into something else within the next 12 months and you'll then have zero leverage.

Play it slow and tell them you aren't motivated to "break even", you don't get even, you get ahead. Its business, they'll understand and either walk or sweeten the deal, then you have some financial leverage on the eventual replacement. Ii can promise you that your Lab puppy isn't gonna appreciate riding in the back of the Ranger when he/she's grown up!

DO IT.

Worst case you sell it back, drive the Ranger and order a new one from Gupton at 6% off invoice. You may even pay less for the new one than you sell the old one for.

And you got a free 20k miles.

I've succumbed to temptation. I've been offered $52k for my stock Gobi 2020 Rubicon with 20k miles, so now I'm pulling off all my aftermarket parts to sell it. I've really enjoyed this Jeep, but I've decided to reduce some debt and this is an easy way to do so. I'll be getting a cheaper car that I've found at a fair price. Due to Texas trade in tax savings, I'd have to sell it for $55k or more private party to make it worth it for my situation.

Option 3 would be awesome IF The Ranger was mine ahead of time. My work has offered to sell it to me for what they paid for it, if I turned around and sold it and kept the gladiator they would be a little upset lol.

I am pretty biased as this is my second GSP, but I have to agree! I love these dogs to death!

Here is my one year old.
