Add the 5.7 Hemi the best on of all!
395 HP, 410 torque wow!
Uh, might want to check your math.
Ford Ranger 405 bhp 430 lb-ft
5.7 V8 as it sits in the Ram 1500: 395 bhp 410 lb-ft

It’s been a while since school, but I’m pretty sure the alligator says 405>395 and 430>410
For that matter throw the EcoDiesel in there, since, you know, they put them in Gladiators.
260 hp 442 lb-ft.

Toss a little tune on it. What, 300 hp 500 lb-ft pretty easy? IMO the horsepower number doesn't matter much in something with an 8 speed that you don't take much past highway speed anyway. There's enough overlap you're always in torque. Makes for a much nicer driving experience.

If the Hemi was offered in the Gladiator when I bought mine I'd have considered it, although I don't like the transfer case they put behind it in the Wrangler. But a lot can be said for NA V8 simplicity. Like the diesel it also has that added benefit of the available torque for everyday drive-ability vs the Pentastar.

I am amongst those that don't particularly like the Pentastar, I think it's underpowered in a vehicle that costs as much as the Gladiator, and sounds bad. But I also buy my Jeeps because I'm an enthusiast, not because I wanted a logical vehicle.

If I wanted a practical pickup I'd have bought a Maverick.

If they offered the 3.6 with a turbo I would still bought the NA motor. If the 5.7 option cost the same in a JT as it does for a Ram 1500 bet your ass I would have one

200# sitting right over the front axle sure makes a big difference in handling, stopping, and off road performance. A truck with 200# less weight hanging out in front sure handles differently over rough terrain.
Having 140 more ft/lbs also makes a big difference.

No one that lives in a state that doesnt tax gasoline to death wants a wittle turbo 4 cylinder in a 5000 pound truck. It hasn't been a popular move for the tacoma.

When its got double the hp of the v6, pin it and the front end is now lighter than the pentastar thanks to weight transfer. The pentastar doesn't make enough power to keep the front end up in the whoops at speed. Unlimited budget trophy trucks still run v8s for the most part, I wonder why?

Except that’s still lower torque than both the Ranger 4cyl and my 3.0 oil burner

You mean the #2 best selling truck after Ford’s bullshit of combining all F-series trucks into one report to pump their numbers? The same one that’s sold more than double the next closest midsize truck model? The one that’s selling nearly twice as many models compared to Q1 last year?

Yeah, Toyota is really crying themselves to sleep over that blunder.

just for comparison here are the HP/torque values available in the major players…

Jeep 285/260

Chevy 310/430

Toyota 278/465

Ford Ranger 405/430

Another thing to point out is that each of the other players in this space offer different engine options, not just one so the cost argument is just BS. If Jeep wanted to be a serious competitor in this space they would offer more options…
Good point. I think the JTD or the 5.7 Hemi certainly could make a difference.

Something else: the competition has similar mass to move around with smaller forced induction displacement motors. They can't defy the laws of physics.

Toyota and GM are turbo 4-pots, and the hybrid Tacos get one that doesn't attempt to be fuel efficient, just make up for the lack of oomph from the smaller motor.

Only Ford offers V6s but they're turbos only at 2.7 and 3.0, substantially smaller in displacement than the Pentastar's NA 3.6.

I haven't watched the video but those guys sometimes fall face first into clickbait videos and sometimes they're pretty spot on. I suppose I'll watch it at the gym on Monday morning.

No one is breaking the laws of physics, internal combustion engines are horribly inefficient - that extra power is just from doing a better job converting chemical energy into mechanical movement.

Which is why I'd rather see the 392. 470hp if jeep does it, 505 if you go to amw. You can argue the v8 is an old solution... but old v8s made worse power than the pentastar. A modern v8 makes more than enough power, sounds better than any of the FI options, and still gets similar fuel economy once you lift it and put big tires on it (the v8 at 2k rpms is more efficient than the v6 at 3k plus which is about where I'd place the average rpms on a roadtrip between the 2 on 37s). At most its costing you 1-2mpg... for double the power.

I don't disagree with you. Maybe im mistaken but all of the competition weighs more than a JTR and if they didn't have turbos, those little 4-pots and even the Ford V6s would be anemic.

Just another reason to hate Ford. They've been retarded since they started making cars. And NOW they're openly telling you they don't care about your privacy, breathalyzers, facial recognition, iris scanning, data mining/selling, and more.

Or do none of you care about the patents they filled regarding all this?

I do, and that’s why my Gladiator will be my last modern car. Every week I’m online shopping for a low-mileage gem that’s 30 years old at a minimum.

Your truck does the same things, reports your location, telemetrics, even your phone’s contacts to Jeep so it can be packaged and sold.
