The new Rubicon with factory installed winch

So, I still haven't test drive any models yet but I'm seeing the new one out with a factory installed winch.
I want a winch, but is it better to buy these things separately or buy a jeep already equipped with one.

Buy separately.
Winch not factory included, but the dealer can install one. A common one offers would probably be a Warn brand of various sizes. Any 4x4 shop can install one of your choice. Most used Rubicon's will probably already have a winch, but you cannot choose which one.

Actually the Shadow Black Ops package does come from the factory with an 8k warn winch.

It would be ready to go right out of the gate but it's a pricy option. $5k.. I know the option has other things than just the winch and winch plate but if buy a Gladiator with a steel bumper your can add the winch plate and add a bigger winch for cheaper. It's just whatever makes the most sense for you.

Supposing you're starting with OEM steel bumpers:

Jeep's OEM Warn is rated for 8k lbs and costs $2K.

A Harbor Freight Badlands Apex rated for 12k is $620. You can add a Factor55 Ultrahook and a mounting plate for less than half of the OEM Warn.

Nothing wrong with the factory installed winch.
As others have said, it's cheaper aftermarket. But sometimes it's easier to just be done with it.
The factory winch, unless things have changed is an 8k Warn. It is supposed to have a little less line than the standard Warn winch, also a slightly smaller body to fit better.

Case in point...We just bought a new toy last week, and I had a couple options added before we picked it up. Sure I could of saved money by going aftermarket and installing them myself. But I also know that it wouldn't of been done in time for our trip tomorrow. I had other things more important to take care of.

My personal opinion is 8k is on the light side, but would be OK. That is unless you play in deeper mud, where suction is an issue. Or if you plan to use it alot. Get a snatch block and the usual winch necessities either way.
I'm running a 10k Warn on my Gladiator, it's a diesel, so bit heavier from the start. So far it's been plenty.

Factory install is not bad, save the the headache and hopefully all wiring will be properly completed. 8K does seem a little light but if that is what they spec then i guess its good.

Do it yourself for a fraction of dealer price. Also avoid the hideous looking extended bumpers on either side of winch factory adds.

It's a "short drum" Warn winch made to Jeep's specs. A short drum will have a bit less rope on it, as well.

L just got a plate and did a 12 K winch myself. All around $500.00. I'll spend about $2K on tires when I need them.

Keep an eye on Harbor Freight ads for that 12k Synthetic. It really is a heck of a deal. Decent warranty too.

Are you sure they are factory installed and not dealer installed ? How did you determine they are factory ? Did you by chance get a look at the brand or capacity rating ?

Not sure with how you questioned your question, but, yes, Jeep does have a factory installed winch option on certain models. I believe you can only buy the factory installed Warn through the dealer. It is not available on the open market.
