Third Brake Light

2020 Gladiator Sport s, just got it three weeks ago, used, with lots of modifications already. However the third brake light in the tailgate doesn't work all the time. I have heard there are issues with them. Any suggestions ? Maybe just pinched wires since it works intermittently ? Before I take it all apart and replace it, wanted to hear if anyone else has had the issue.

Mine quit altogether. The light was the problem.
Under warranty, but since it’s a light, it’s not covered. Cost me over $300 for the dealer to repair, and then tell me it’s not covered!
You can buy just the light for about $60.

I found one for even less on eBay.

The install is pretty simple: open the tailgate, remove the panel, remove the light. Reverse procedure.

Check for loose connections before you replace the light assembly.

The light is definitely a warranty item, especially since it's LED. Your dealership sucks. If they had regular light bulbs, yeah, but not leds. O well, too late now

It's absolutely covered under the 36,000 mile factory warranty, it's not a bulb or bulbs it's a full replacement. Mine went out and the dealership replaced mine under warranty when they did my steering box upgrade. If a dealership refuses to cover it contact @JeepCares and get a ticket started

Mine has issues as well. It’s not working currently but for me, all I have to do to fix it is to play with The connections. Unplug and plug and that will do the job for a week. Done this a few times already and it’s annoying.

Get it replaced, sounds like a bad connection. That's the same thing that's was happening with mine. They replaced replaced it for free under warranty

But yeah, it's the actual light. I had a spare one and cut it open. I clipped on some power directly to the pins. The connection to the board is probably defective on some these lights. Maybe bad batch of a good reason for them to revise.

I got pulled over for no third brake light. Got 12v at the connector. Wiggles the connector works, but out again when closed the tailgate. Most likely bad connections inside the lamp. I'll just gonna buy one and replaced myself. It's more convenient than dropping it off, the times plus fuel cost and dealing with the dealer's personnel ain't worth it.

Gladiator lamp-out warning circuit is a flaw. It'll only detect it if it's an open circuit.
