That's a very nice Toyota. I wish that we would see regular cab mid-size trucks in America with a long bed. A few years ago, our local Ford dealer had this Ranger on their lot. I stopped and took these pictures.

You are very correct sir!!! Import and legalization outside of domestic market vehicles is a major pain in the rear end. Unless the car/truck is over 25 years old it is an insanely expensive process mostly reserved for high end exotics and collectibles, and even than no guarantee you will be able to drive the car on public roads.
This is State dependant. Some states allow, some do not. If someone is going through that process, I would hope they know their states laws.

Hmmm. Interesting but Toyota.com shows this as 2024 Land Cruiser.

The 70-series Land Cruiser doesn't come to the US. There have been different Land Cruiser platforms for decades, depending on how you use it. Generally there's a utility model and a consumer "comfort" model that are entirely different platforms. Like how the 40-sereis was made at the same time as the 50- and 60-series. (the 40 series was made until 2001 in Brazil, so it overlapped with the 80 and even 100 series Land Cruisers).

The Land Cruiser we are getting in the US is a light duty model based on the Lexus GX and Land Cruiser Prado.

Getting a title is state dependent, but importing the vehicle is federal and deals with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, EPA, and USDOT.

I first drove a double cab 79 Series with a turbo diesel about 10 years ago and loved it for its simplicity and capability.
When I came back to the states I tried hard to figure out how to get one here and decided that it would cost almost $100K and there was no guarantee that it would even be legal. The exhaust system and crash worthiness were the two biggest issues.

So I bought the next best thing, the Gladiator…
We had diesel hiluxes’s in Afghanistan, slow and gutless at high altitude but pretty bombproof (to a reasonable degree).

The JT could benefit from a simple single wall, drop side, flatbed. Probably lose a few lbs and with some axle work you’d have a formidable workhorse.

Confined to gasoline, the V6 as is, makes a compelling utility case. Some light modification to resolve the secondary battery issues, toughened up engine bay plastics and other odds and ends would economically improve it.

The new Ineos(Eneos?) pickup has that Defender p/u vibe...

Too bad my kidneys are already spoken for, and my liver's currently being bartered on.

The non turbo diesel is basically a farm tractor and like you said was pretty gutless. The turboed version is a whole different animal.

Most, if not all of Jeeps competition are now putting out over 300 HP and without a boost in power the Gladiator will find itself loosing more market share.. JMHO.

There are several new imported Land Cruisers in my area, they're all owned by local mining companies, they seem to like to display them before taking them into the mines. I'll try to snap a photo next time I see one.

I built a troop carrier style on their website with the 4.5 V8 manual and it comes out to $63000 USD. I would describe it has a longer JLU. The 4dr with the tray bed is $67500 USD.

It is funny to note that on their website they say this 'Indicative model and pricing only. Due to extended wait times, the final vehicle we can offer you and its price are likely to be different.' Being in Canada this feels familiar, order a Tacoma or 4 Runner or Tundra and you'll get one eventually but it is almost certain to not be quite what you wanted!
