I think I was fighting a losing battle. I guess my only recourse will be to make it my life's goal to tell every person about the bad experience I had. Even with that, I run the risk of illuminating an online seller who does not charge sales tax. That's a big chunk of money in a state like Tennessee, where sales tax is nearly 10%. I already got screwed. Maybe I shouldn't care if anybody else does. That seems to be the American way.

I get your point. It was a losing battle. As someone else mentioned, the best you could have hoped for is a refund for one tire after a lot of drama and time. This way you'll (hopefully) eventually get your tire and then you can shit-talk them all over the internet.

He might not be required to collect Sales Tax. And if he isn’t, you may be required to remit Use Tax to your state.

Yeah, the fact that my local tire shops quoted me a price that was more than $100 more per tire and they couldn't tell me when they could actually get a set in was enough for me to realize that I was cutting off my nose to spite my face. When I order a spare, I will probably just get it on Amazon.

I realize this is late, but in the future, refuse the shipment. That way you are not responsible for the 3 tires and your justification is the backordered tire.I placed an order for 4 tires on jeepandtruckparts.com aka HPTAutosport on Thursday, January 9, and my credit card was billed immediately.
Jeepandtruckparts.com is located in North Carolina and advertises that they ship in 1-5 business days.
On Tuesday, January 14, the tires shipped from Dallas, TX using XPO. On Friday, January 17, XPO scheduled the delivery for Monday, January 20. When the XPO driver arrived, he said he had 3 tires for me. He opened his truck, and there was one pallet with 3 tires on it. I immediately checked the JeepandTruckParts.com website, and sure enough, the sure said that all items in the order had shipped.
I called them using the number on the paperwork on the pallet. I got a voicemail saying that they do not accept any phone calls and to send an email. I emailed them and was told they would check with the warehouse. The next email said that they were out of stock and were checking on the lead time for the missing tire. The next email said they could refund my money for the missing tire if I didn't want to wait.
My problem is that they should have told me they only had 3 tires 11 days ago, instead of sending the 3 they had and not trying to find a 4th tire at that time. I emailed and told him I would prefer to just receive a refund for the entire order. I received no reply. What would you do? I called my credit card company and they asked me to wait 24 hours to see if they "make it right" before reversing the charges.

Maybe research your website first. I've ordered several sets of tires for multiple types of vehicles. Never had an issue, but I stuck with well-known tire retailers.
Hope you get it worked our and have better luck.

I understand. I just purchased 4 tires, but for a passenger car. I used GiGa-Tires. From order to receiving the tires was less than a week.
Can you source the tire from another site ?
Also, even though you are frustrated, dont just set the pallet of tires out... unless you have express written proof of return.
You definitely don't want them stolen or for something else to happen and then be responsible for paying if you don't get the 4th tire figured out.

Well, I did what I should have done yesterday. I went ahead and ordered a 5th tire from Amazon, and it will be here Friday. I'll have a spare and won't be at the mercy of the slow-boat shipping. It says it will be fulfilled by 4Wheel Online. We'll see the difference between a good online vendor and a bad one.

For most situations, Sales Tax is only collected if the seller has a physical presence in the state the merchandise is being shipped to. If Sales Tax is not collected, it is up to the purchaser to comply with the law in their state.
I prefer to order from @AllMoparParts.com since they are a Forum Sponsor and don't collect Sales Tax for my state.

I once had 3 out of 4 rims for my BMW arrive from one truck, and I asked the driver if he forgot one. He said "nope, that's all I have", and I quickly got frustrated and asked "what good are 3 rims". I called the local dispatch and they confirmed it got split up, and again I vented. A couple hours later, another driver showed up with the remaining rim, and he asked if I got the other 3 because he didn't know why he only had 1 of a 4 piece shipment. We had a laugh. That was 10 years ago.
