So currently the US total is around 3800 cases and 68 deaths, that would be a .017 mortality rate. That includes all known cases. I wonder how low the number drops if it included all cases, including the non symptomatic or lightly infected persons who don’t meet the criteria to be tested? If it’s 3x the number of know cases then we are looming at a mortality rate around .0059. I guess over the next two weeks we will see what percent get sicker and die vrs get treated and survive.

That is not how you calculate a mortality rate unless all 3800 have recovered and it was 68 deaths.

H1N1 was a mutation of the influenza-a virus and also passed person to person. Covid is a mutation of coronavirus. Coronavirus and Rhinovirus cause colds. Coronavirus is the nasty and less frequent of the two and this is a nasty mutation of it. One that people have never encountered before so your immune system doesn’t recognize it and start fighting it as quick. Both are an upper respiratory infection that can lead to a lower respiratory infection (pneumonia). Hence the cough and shortness of breath symptoms. Those with pre-existing health issues are the most at risk of pneumonia, heart problems and so forth. Look at the CDC website. Most people get over it with fever reducers to keep their temps from getting too high and drinking plenty of fluids.
That said I still wonder why people thought it necessary to stock up on 3 months or toilet paper. If you need that much for a 2 week quarantine, you have more serious medical issues than a nasty cold!!
And why the lines for ammo and guns? Are they planning on shooting the virus out of the air if it gets near their house?

So the TP thing is world wide question. Why? My thought is it represents the most comfortable aspect of the most personal part of survival mechanism. Stay with me.. so you are in survival mode but you don't know what to do. The rules are stay in your house. So you've got running water (some dont) so you'll drink, but you've got people all in the house. You'll eat, cause you have food. So your only problem is taking a dump in private. Everything else is solved, but your most personal comfort can be obtained by comfortable dumping. You know your big dumper will be using it up, the TP, so you buy enough not to run out. All the other folks in the store instantly see the value of a comfy dump. So they buy it. Now it's a thing. A true thing, so it just keeps happening. You don't want to be the one person in the world who runs out. I offer the following proof. People still using outhouses aren't hoarding it. Not because they cant afford but because they are hoarding water.

Maybe I’m showing my age but here’s my thought.... if I’m at home for two weeks, take a dump and have run out of toilet paper, I can jump in the shower and wash off! Women can use a wash rag to wipe number one like they did before TP was an easily accessible convenience. Problem solved! Lol
I really think the hoarding comes from uneducated panic that life as we know it is going to stop for months and those that don’t keep a week or two of supplies at home (shop for dinner on the way home, the night they are going to cook it) are panicking and buy way more than they need then others see that the store is almost sold out and buy what’s left so they don’t get caught without and then you end up with people taking it off the pallet as the Walmart employee is trying to drag it to the isle!! Had to laugh when I saw that the other day getting milk.

Then there are those that think a viral pandemic is a get rich quick opportunity. Like the a-hole that clears the shelves at the store and then charges exorbitant prices because he has it all. He might get a few desperate people but he should feel real dumb when the store gets more and things return to normal and he’s left holding more than he’ll use in a lifetime and ends up giving it away at half price just to recover a portion of his investment. I wish the cops could arrest those idiots and charge them with extortion or something and take their stash to the local homeless shelter for those that have even less than we do. One good thing I saw was that Amazon was pulling ads of people trying to price gouge basic necessities. Take away their customers and they’re stuck with a supply they don’t need.
