Thoughts/experiences on control arm drop brackets

Deleted member 57233

The brackets correct the angle of the control arms. Jeep designed these things to have the control arms close to level with the ground for ride comfort. The brackets let you lift it and keep the same angle on the arms. I have a 3.5" lift and the JKS brackets, and my stock control arms are about level.

I get that but every video I watched on install, as soon as you disconnect the one side the axle moves. Once the bracket is installed they all had to move the tire back and forth quite a bit to get the holes to line back up. This is without adjusting the arms at all. But that indicates to me that the axle moved once the control arms were unhooked, which is why they had to manipulate the axle to get things to line back up. Some showed that the control arm was inches away from the mounting hole, and they had to manipulate the axle around to get the control arm lined back up. I don’t see how you could just adjust the control arm since the axle is in a random spot.
Sure, good points. I chocked the wheels and nothing really moved. It was a pretty quick install overall, with the exception of one of the spacers on the inside of the metalcloak bracket - it was a little too tight inside and it took some work to get that installed right. The CAs were no big deal though. 🤷‍♂️

Before I bought anything. I read a lot of threads on this subject. I ended up piecing together a 4" lift. Frankenstein lift. Core control arms and front track bar. Clayton springs and rear track bar. Teraflex front geo brackets and rear track bar bracket. Glad that I went with the geo brackets. I've hit them a few times at Rausch Creek. I believe anything over 3" you need them unless the truck never sees pavement, or very little of it.

I put a 2” spacer lift on the wife’s JLU and drove it around like that for awhile. Stock control arms as well. I did notice it got a little more harsh on sharp bumps and a little more twitchy. I then put on the rancho drop brackets which allow you to adjust to whatever castor you want. I put my phone on the bottom ball joint area and with the bolt of the control arm exactly in the middle of the slot on the bracket, I was at 9 degrees it said. I thought I’d try it there and never moved it again, it was that much of an improvement.
