Get off your high horse dude. Been using my Harbor Freight Torque Wrench for almost 5yrs and it torques as good as any american made one does. If you didn't trust it then why did you buy it. Some people really make me wonder.

I have this one and really like it. I'm no expert but I really have enjoyed all my Tekton stuff.
Tekton's Amazon ratings are through the roof!

My issue with my HF wrench is how the adjustment lock works. I find that it doesn’t always stay put, and I wind up on the wrong torque. The Kobalt has a nice spring loaded locking collar, and it’s easy to change.

You can verify the set calibration if you have a vice and weights.

Honestly, there have been reviews that those "cheap" harbor freight torque wrenches have been spot on with the big dogs.
They all have calibration certificates. My 1/2" busted after about a year with minimql use. Their 1/2" drive 50-250 wrench isn't cheap by their standards either. I have a 1/4" and 3/8" drive HF torque wrenches and have had zero issues. They were only $20 each. I try HF a lot. If it doesn't break I keep using it. If it breaks right away I buy something better.

In my previous life, the wrench was verified it was had a current calibration performed, and if it wasn't, it would be sent off for calibration. They would adjusted if required and provide a calibration record, or taken out of service.

Then before using it, it would be set to the value you wanted, and verified. Why go though the verification? If someone used the wrench before you and dropped it, that alone could change its calibration.

Why go though all the verification? You don't want a plane falling out of the sky because of a bad torque.

You can check your HF torque wrench by using a cheap luggage scale described in @red/green hawk's post

Just buy a 12 inch ratchet and a dumbbell set from 5 to 150lbs. Hang what ever torque( dumbbell lb) you need it to be at the 12inch mark of the handle. PROBLEM SOLVED, will never need adjustment?

I have had a Husky for a few years it has worked well afaik. I have a old Craftsman with the dial, too hard to use for high torque fasteners.

If you can’t find one made in the USA, I can highly recommend the Kobalt 1/2” which you can get from Lowe. It works from 50-250 ft/lbs. I also have a Harbor freight lighter weight one which is a POS, but it was a gift. Take them for what they are worth.
Thanks! I had the same experience with my HF one. I purchased a Precision Instrument PREC3FR250F off of Amazon warehouse for just over $100 a few hours ago. One of it's selling points was that it doesn't need to be turned down before being put away.

I appreciate almost everyone's input!

Only if the weights have been verified as accurate as well. I was in the product certification business for 32 years. I was a huge pain in the ass to a lot of people, and I was very good at it.

most of snap on are still made in usa but most of the power tools are made in china. Kobalt have decent torque wrenchs have both half inch and 3/8 the 1/2 is good to 250 lbs and life time warrenty just take it back to lowes get a new one if you are able to break it . i had one of the first one of the half 1/2 with plastic handle the handle broke they gave me a new on with steel handle .
