Dear friends,

Wolfbox needs your help please!

We are looking for some informative input or generic demand from you guys regarding cameras. To get you started, Here're some questions:

  • When you are towing a trailer, what do you want to monitor and why?
  • How do you like to mount cameras?
  • What do you concern the most when mounting the cam?
Any other information is appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

I drive several different types and sizes of trailers for work and pleasure, but have never had a camera system, so I'll tell you what I can.
The thing I often have the hardest time seeing with my mirrors is the passenger side trailer wheels. I drive 16' gooseneck trailers, 20' car hauler tilt deck trailers, wood chippers that are narrower than our chip truck (really fun to back up!), and personally, my little 5x8 box trailer camper.
I can adjust my passenger mirror down so I can see the wheels, but then I can't really see the road behind much. The panoramic mirrors are okay, but you can't really tell much back there with them.
I think I'd love to have a camera on the back passenger corner of the truck, maybe in a tail light or something, or in a pod on the back quarter panel, looking back. I'd get decent blind spot coverage, but could get a clear view of the trailer, especially when backing into tight quarters.

Hope that's the kind of info you're looking for!

Thank you! Can you please tell me more about why you need to observe the passenger side trailer wheels?

I have a 7x12 enclosed trailer that I camp out of. Pulled it with several full sized pickup with real tow mirrors. Now that I use the Gladiator, the rear view is dismal.

Ideally I'd like to see a 3 camera system. Power them off of the trailers clearance lights. 1 high mount in the rear, then the other 2 on the sides.
Using the stock infotainment screen would be awesome, but probably not easy. A small tablet (8 or 9 inch) type screen I could secure to the rearview mirror would work.
I'd like a screen view like this...

With options where the left camera takes priority with left turn signal and right does the same.
Choices of just rear view, just left, just right, or all 3.
Options could be, wireless or wired, 3 cameras or 1 camera systems.
I don't really care about recording the video, but guess that could be an option. Maybe even a 4 camera system with one facing forward for those that want a dash cam. But not mounted to the back of the screen.

I would probably mount the screen to an overead molle panel or similar.

Mostly for making sure my trailer is still on the road, lol! We travel a lot of narrow country roads, and with our big, wide trailers, it's often not enough to just know I'm on my side of the yellow line. With heavy trailers loaded down, dropping a tire off the asphalt is a pretty sure way to pop a tire.
I'm probably just too paranoid about it, as I've gotten pretty good over the years at knowing where I am on the road, but even now, that one view (passenger trailer view) is still the one that I have the most trouble with.

We had a camera I added to the upper rear of our 24” travel trailer. When looking I discovered there are some with a microphone built into the camera, that’s very handy and safe to have. It lest you listen to traffic and tire noises from the speaker in the monitor mounted on the dash. But most importantly if you need guidance as you are backing up in any situation, the person out back can give you verbal advice you can hear! They have them in all RV stores. The brand name I believe was Farrion.

I pull a 17RK Jayco Hummingbird camper. I would like a rear view camera that is powered at all times, not off of the trailer lights that have to be on (which could be solved with some creative wiring on the trailer). It would be nice to be able to either select which view you have, truck no trailer or trailer attached or maybe even a choice of both views at the same time to keep an eye on the trailer itself, wireless connection for video to the mirror, so no extra wires to run for the trailer camera.

I would love a camera on the rear of the trailer. I have two trailers. One small offroad trailer for camping, and a 14’ enclosed cargo trailer. I like to backup into parking spots with very little clearance, and often get out multiple times to check distance. While I know I love my trailer camera with the 900, I don’t use that camera when not on trails. I’ve thought about wiring up a second extra camera for trailers, and figuring out a toggle switch to alternate between trail and trailer cameras.

I pull multiple trailers for various reasons. For my RV T/T that is almost 28ft long and 8ft wide. I use a Furion rv setup with a rear camera and side marker cameras. If WolfBox produced a similar setup, I would convert. I need to be able to see the rear and blinds pots when making lane changes or while backingup. I have mirror extensions, but they're still slightly too small and the Jeep is narrow. If you made cameras that mounted on the mirrors that would be cool too.

Like Furrion's S+, but with better reliability.

That's a good idea. Thank you for telling your thoughts.

Built-in microphone. That's a good one. Thanks for letting me know.👍

I think the ability to utilize a camera mounted on the rear of a trailer is important, especially with todays distracted driving. Not only to be able to see whats behind you, but to also record if someone hits your trailer. With todays technology there really isn't any reason to not have rear visibility with a trailer hooked up.

I have the G930 in the Jeep and I added a second camera to my camper. I used a camera extension cable off Amazon to add a run from the Wolfbox camera location on the truck to a 4pin weather tight connector I added near the trailer hookups, and now I can easily swap between the truck and trailer cameras. I plan to do a write up on this soon, just been busy.
