Transmission oil change with PPE aluminum oil pan

I have a diesel..so not a issue. PPE pan will not result in any cooling benefits..from reading countless threads and personal experience on other trucks. BMW forum threads results do show a few degrees benefit. BMW uses this pan on its racing M5's for a reason.

Transmission heat is not really an issue with except in the minds of some on the internet.

I know I’ve been that “random mind on the internet” that’s been a thorn in your side speaking crazy science and venturing into the unknown realm of multiple transmission pan drops to gain cooler temps which I did accomplish BUT …@ShadowsPapa, I t means more to me to have the name I was given at birth than to be thought of as “random” and some mind on the internet looking for a problem that isn’t there so, from this day forward,…IM A NEW MAN, this new year, I’m now looking for how I can lower your temperatures so I’ll just put aside my real world experience and findings and just do them quietly, for me,…and for you and all other Bill’s and others schooled together in the same class, I think I’ll agree our transmissions don’t get hot and I think OP should install the BMW pan. In the end, it’ll all work out and he’ll be ok. You’ve been a great therapist for me.

One reason the PPE pan is used is because cooling benefits just aren't necessary. In fact, some of us see transmission temperatures a bit TOO cold in our climates.

Use whatever pan you want. no big deal, unless it makes you feel better about it, then it's a big deal.

On an extended 4 low steep climb loaded with camping gear a stock rubicon Jt will get very hot. Trans and the engine.
I imagine not many here would know this but its a fact.
My rig sheds heat now at a much better rate than it did in stock form. The trans pan was one piece of the mods I did to shed heat at low speed

Has anyone used the ZF 24119503407?

I nearly bought this one but decided to welded a bung to the steel pan instead. Our filter pickup extended toward the rear of the pan due to transmission beingat an angle and not leveled like those came on BMW vehicles. There're reports over on the JL forum with the PPE pan starving for fluid when climbing excessive angle while off roading.

I've only been able to dig up one thread on this with an individual admitting that he didn't do the proper fill procedure.

With that being said, I've never had a transmission issue on inclines but my engine has stalled unexpectedly on some steep inclines (with plenty of fuel).

I'll post it here if i can find that thread again. It's happened to a few folks over there. One member even attempted to add an extra quart to correct the issue. Based on my research, Jt, JL and the Rams are the only vehicles with the ZF transmissions that has the filter with an extended pickup toward the rear lowest point, and the pan is lower toward the rear half when frame leveled.

Whether to level transmission or frame when refilling are depending on the filter and pan design/shape. Some platforms designed with transmission levels and some doesn't like our truck, it's why ZF do not mentioned in any of their instructions which to level. I refilled mine with frame leveled. Put back in about same amount that came out. I don't see any dealerships or shops jacking up the rear end up like 20 inches to level the trans, it just doesn't makes any senses as our pan is already lower in the rear.

That's what I want to do. Do you have a write up? I know nothing about doing that kind of work, but I have a nephew that could help, possibly.

So the PPE aluminum pan does shed heat better than the thin steel one does. OK. What oil works best in the trans? Is the factory ZF oil really the best? Could Amsoil be as good or better? If I have a trans failure will the dealer care about that for a warranty repair? Not that my other mods wouldn't cancel my warranty.

Just use what ZF and FCA say. I don't get the " what's better" bit. There is no risk and there can be no question that way. No one has ever blown a transmission where the stock fluid was blamed. ZF spent years and engineering dollars on it.
Why would other mods impact the trans warranty?

That's what I want to do. Do you have a write up? I know nothing about doing that kind of work, but I have a nephew that could help, possibly.

I bought this M10 bung below, drilled an 11/16" hole at the lowest point of the pan, dropped in and welded.
