Given that those mounting points are designed to hold bedrails and secure heavy items, I can’t believe they ripped out from a tire sitting there. Doesn’t seem like there would be as much force from that, but what do I know.
It's the wheel bouncing up/down while moving down the road that causes the prying/fatigue/failure in the sheet metal at this setup's mounting points over time. Think of an aluminum can tab that you repeatedly bend up and down and it eventually just cracks the metal and detaches from the can.

If the wheel were able to be strapped directly downward towards the bed bottom to prevent the upward movement/bouncing of the wheel the tear out likely wouldn't have happened.

May need to start a new trend….the Glady steel FLATBED! Wimpy factory beds are mostly the reason that flats are so popular with harsh work environment workmen…er work people that is.

I have to admit, I kinda knew the bed was made with thin material. But c'mon hahaha I also figured for the fucking price of these things, it would or should I say SHOULD hold up better than this!! After getting the truck new, I installed the lift and tires only to figure out that the 37" wouldn't really fit under the bed anymore without making a few tweaks. So I made my own mount at work so that the tire would sit in the bed! Looked great and worked great. With traveling to the armpit of Texas ( Midland-Odessa ) for work I wanted to make sure I had my spare. Fast forward to today and well, I can't really get mad because I'm the one who tried to save money by making my own shit but I also should have known better in the long run.... Does anyone know off the top of their if a body shop can just cut this strip out and weld in a new one?? Before y'all even say it "Why don't you just call a body shop??", Work is crazy for me so when I get time for myself, I prefer to sleep when on the road. Figured I would look on here to see if anyone has possibly made a similar mistake or accident. Or if anyone has any recommendations on another route to go. Thanks for time!!

I’m with you the bed is made of a sardine can. I just started a thread before I realized about this one. The wheel wells dent if you hit it with your fist. Don’t ask how I know lol.

it worked great and didn't take up too much of the already small bed. Still have enough room for a snap-on roll cab loaded with tools and other stuff I need to travel with. the only bummer was it made that one D-ring a bitch to get to.
Did you really to to hold up 100# worth of wheel and tire with a single M6 into sheet metal?

Dymanic loads do be doin' that.

This is an eye opener for me. My truck didnt come with the trail rail so, I have the open threaded holes. Was looking to buy some track but when I looked at how many fastener holes were their I thought no way can a piece of track hold 50-100lb object in a severe braking situation. The whole trail rail needs major reinforcement and more fasteners. On the front bulkhead I could reach behind and put a piece of say .063 aluminum sheet metal but would definitely have to add more fasteners.

I don’t know about you, but I struggle to open a sardine can. 😉

I think Nuthouse's is my favorite flatbed replacement so far.
$12,000? That's a joke. You can get a fully optioned Bradford Built skirted flatbed with built in toolboxes and LED lighting for a one ton dually full size truck for $6,000.

The first time I used the D-rings in my bed, I noticed the sidewall of the bed flexing with very limited tension on the ratchet. These things are severely underbuilt for truck duty. I would be scared to haul a motorcycle or anything where I really had to crank down the ratchets, for fear of buckling the sheet metal.
