X2, not sure when I would need to run my cruise up that much. Turn CC on, get to my speed, hit the set button. if the speed limit drops by 5, i just hit the "-" 5 times. Increases by 5 just push the "+" 5 times. Don't use my cruse control on 2-lane roads, only long highways and interstates.
We have highway 5 near us - we drive it a couple of times a week at least. The speed drops from 65 to 55 a couple of times. Simple - hold the button and FEEL the JT slow down and you are at 55. When past the town, hold the button for 2 seconds 2 times and you are back at 65.
It's a matter of using and getting used to it. I'd really really miss it if it was gone.
I've used that feature since November 2019 when I got my first JT.
I use cruise on 2 or 4 lane - ACC is great for either because if you come across someone slowing down to turn off the highway, your Jeep slows down and once they turn, it speeds up again. No need to touch gas or brake.
Again, I'd miss it badly if it wasn't there. In fact, driving my wife's 4xe that doesn't have the advance safety group, I really miss that ACC.
I'd never get another vehicle without it.

"until the button is released"
is not accurate in my experience.

For example, struggling up a long grade
it shifts down, accelerates the first 5 mph,
hesitates, accelerates the second 5 mph,
and so on
until it reaches the "aspirational" speed
displayed under the clock,
which may be many seconds
after already having let off the set+ button.

Now that I understand what is happening
it is rather handy.
I use cruise control at every opportunity.

Same is true for the - button

Took a little getting use to compared to all of my other cc vehicles.

First couple of times I would be dropping from 60 to 50 thinking it was 1 mph and having to ramp back up to speed

In the 2021 manual
the only discussion of cruise control
is on pages 181-184.

"If the button is continually pushed, the set
speed will continue to adjust until the button
is released, then the new set speed will be
established."

Not true, for my JTR, but I'm over it.

Now if they would just add "lane holding".
Wouldn't that be great!

I've driven hundreds of miles with my feet in a comfy position, using only the cruise buttons to handle speed changes. When I go through a small town after driving 70 I hit the set - button to drop to 55 or even 45, then set + after I get past that town and the local cops. Never touching the pedals.
Even nicer with the 4xe as in max regen, you only need the brakes at the very last to come to a full stop. max regen in combination with the cruise - nice, easy driving. Can drive for hours without foot fatigue.
I do the same thing when coming into small towns on the highway.

I'm in the use cruise control most of the time crowd. Probably why I'm pissed with jackasses who can't or won't maintain a consistent speed.:headbang::headbang:
I've noticed the 5 mph jump but not normally something I have to think about. My LJ turns cruise control off most of time when you try to decelerate with down button. Done that since brand new.

I do know in my case I still find the cruise a bit frustrating in my 2022 JTR

Press the button once it increases the speed incrementally.
Hold the button and it jump the set cruise speed 10km/h at a time displayed on the EVIC, then the jeep accelerate to that speed.
On my previous 2011 JKUR and my current wifes 2012 JKU Arctic

Press the button once it increases the speed incrementally.
Hold the button and the jeep starts to accelerate, release the button and it stays at that speed.

The way the Gladiator cruise work is different from any other vehicle I have driven, I dont mind it but it has taken a bit to get used to.

I have a 1994 Grand Cherokee engine, PCM and PDC in my car. I'm using the cruise control that's built into the PCM of the ZJ.
AMC used the GM style cruise control switch on the turn signal stalk.
The button operations and sequences are very different. So I had to create and build a simple circuit of a relay and some diodes to change things around.
So now I have a GM style cruise control switch operating a Jeep PCM-based cruise control on a 4.0 ahead of a T5 manual transmission.
It's also the sort where you hold the button in to accelerate then let go and it maintains that speed. Was very different to get used to. I have to re-learn every time I drive that car and use the cruise.
The JT seems normal to me, the ZJ/AMC system seems weird.

Thank you for the link to the online owners manual.
But it should say something to the effect:

Warning: The vehicle does not stop accelerating
by releasing the set+ button.
The vehicle will continue to accelerate
until the "itsy bitsy, teeny weenie" new set speed
displayed under the clock in the instrument cluster
is attained.

Just the opinion of one curmudgeon.
