I'm just wondering does anybody make a perfectly recondition 3.6 pentastar ( with out )the v v t issues. I would like to keep my vehicle for the long hall. But if I start having engine problems like some of us guys? I would like to do an engine swap but not go v8. Almost like a drop in and turn key.

I had my 2021 3.6 replaced in October 2022. So far I’m at 23k kms on it with no issues and was told when this engine was ordered, the misfire problems were solved and upgraded.

My 21 had misfired and cam fixed at 16k kms.

Thanks for responding. My warranty is over. So if it hits the fan I don't want to pay for the same motor with the same issues after thirty to forty thousand miles. That's why im looking for a almost bullet proof motor

I believe there was a shwack of 3.6L engines made in 20 and 21 with the lifters in backwards or cam upside down or something like that?? ( @ShadowsPapa HELP) He’ll tell you. He knows everything
At least one member said his right bank had exhaust lash adjusters in the intake position.
What that would do is force the follower to stay in high lift mode at all times.
I question that as a cause of damage, OTOH, if they were originally designed to only be in high lift mode above 2800 RPM, and they have to stay off the rollers, out of low lift mode at all times, it could accelerate any wear of the high lift portion of the cam and follower.
I've not heard of it being wide-spread.
I've only heard of it for the 2020 model but that doesn't mean there weren't others.
Then someone else said "the PCM programming was changes to bring in the high lift mode earlier/sooner than the 2800 RPM"
Fact or fiction??

I know some have had vvt issues, but overall the Pentastar is considered quite reliable. It has been in production forever, a lot of early issues were worked out long ago. Many people have gotten a zillion miles out of the 3.6 Pentastar. I'd just stay with your current engine and odds are you'll be good.

I was told by the guy over the service dept at my dealership it was early 2020 models that had the issue. I think post July or August builds in 2020 were fine or in later built models they had the issued figured out. I've not heard of any post 2020 models having the issues, or not enough of them to concern me. You gonna find issues with pretty any new design model if you buy the first year made. That's why I'm normally a wait a year or 2 guy before jumping on the new builds but I had to have one so I got one. Mine was a Sept 2020 build and I got 71,200 problem free miles on mine.

My build was August 2020 sold as a 2021 JTR. Misfire/cam fix @ 16k km.

Yeah, not saying it's accurate at all just info and he wasn't sure of the dates. Seems funny that one was built in August 2020 and one in Sept 2020 and one was sold as a 2021 and the other a 2020.

One problem with that thinking - the engine design was made in 2015 and put in 2016 model year Jeeps so it's been around 4 years by the time it hit Gladiator. It was hardly a first year engine in 2019 (2020 model year)
And with design changes, mid-year mods and so on - that old "wait a year or two" hasn't had a lot of meaning in quite a while. You will find that things can sneak in on vehicles. Axle leaks, for example. 2020 was fine! No problems - first model year of the JT - then comes 2021 model year and oops - those who waited had issues those who jumped did not have.
With mid-year changes, there's no right time. I can go back into the 70s and find where things that had been around for 3 or 4 years had mid-year changes that caused issues. First model year of the design was fine, 4 years later a modification to the drivetrain led to driveshaft issues of certain Ford trucks.
Who's to say that they don't redesign the heads on the current 3.6 just a bit and introduce new issues - 4 years later.

Just turned 86k mi on mine (JTRLE), no issues yet (on the motor).
