Its amazing that you have this point of view while using technology that is advanced by the generation you are insulting.

This generation is significantly smarter than the previous, even if our grammar is bad. The next generation is even smarter (joke, I know its 'more smart'). The kids/grandkids have potential through the roof.

So you keep harping on your English lessons and/or sex-labels. We will fix the world. You decide which is more important.

(PS - Dont forget that all the Greeks you made a living off of were fluid in sex roles and mostly illiterate)
As a Gen Xer I'll remind you that Boomers wrote TCP/IPv4 ;) CCIE x3 here.

Indeed.
The one thing I found to be quite amazing is how easy today's programmers have it compared to the tools we had available 30 plus year's ago. I used to be a computer programmer for a software company right out of high school. There were very few and limited tools to assist with our programming tasks. This was back in the late '80's.
I recently took a powershell course and I was dumbfounded by two things...first, how similar the language was to BASIC, which I have a solid background in, and second was how simple it was to code any needed task within the platform.
Programmers and coders have it so easy today to perform the same tasks with a couple of lines of code that we had to write several lines of code to perform in the past.
So, while some may perceive the younger generation as being more intelligent, they are simply using more powerful tools that wouldn't be possible without the continual advancements in technology.
It also seems to be a noticeable pattern where most of the senior engineers at companies are up there in age. It is not as prevalent to have the younger generation in the more advanced roles.
I used to think IT was a young man's game, buy that was because I was younger and had a skewed perception of reality.
Most everything today wouldn't be possible without some previous found knowledge or technology. Especially in technology related things, no one individual would be able to make anything today from scratch...they are using things that required several trials and failed attempts before a successful result. Most everything is a conglomerate of many generations of knowledge, so each new advancements is built upon an already set of learned technology.
All that is basically saying the younger generation isn't more advanced or intelligent, they just have more powerful tools at their disposal.

The way the windshield goes down is really just a pointless checkbox item.

They used to fold down frame and all. So you literally had nothing in front of you. I understand that in the interest of structural integrity they made the decision not to fold the frame. But it still is nothing like it used to be.

exactly.

When I had my TJ and YJ I could take down the windshield and remove the upper bars connecting it to the rear roll bar. This gave you the experience of a truly open vehicle. I found out pretty quickly it was actually rather unpleasant but at least you had the experience. And I swear I'll throat punch the next asshole that says something about dogs sticking their head out the window. I've owned many motorcycles. Its a different kind of ride with different expectations and a different experience; and I live in a state where helmets are optional and I always wear one. Mainly because having your face beat up by the wind is exhausting after a while and a helmet helps reduce fatigue when doing longer rides. This probably why a lot of riders that do long rides without helmets have WINDSHIELDS on their damn bikes.

Now you're basically just taking the glass out and still surrounded by a cage. It's stupid and serves no real function other than to make you uncomfortable at any speed over 25mph.

It's a heritage feature that Jeep should just get rid of at point as it probably adds some level of cost to the vehicle, serves no purpose and over 90% of owners wont use it anyways.

People do it cause they can not because they honestly enjoy the experience and they aren't even getting the experience anyways.

Anyways I'm going to get a bunch of flaming for my take. Your opinion is wrong and I'm okay with that. Enjoy thinking you look cool or interesting with your windshield down. I prefer to be comfortable.

obviously those last few lines were purposely antagonistic and for fun but take it personally if you like. No seriously, enjoy your truck as you like; windshield up or down.

This was a mostly enjoyable read.

With regard to advances in space, it's really dependent on whether or not you care if a person was holding the camera or if it's a robot receiving signals from afar.

When I graduated from school, there were 9 planets. Now there are 8 planets, but an ever growing list of dwarf planets. We knew Pluto had a moon, but can you even compare the small fuzzy grey/white dot that was it's known image to the color corrected images detailed enough to show what appears to be a heart on Pluto's surface?

Hubble brought images that look like they come from one's imagination (or a Kubrick film). Can you even imagine what the next space telescope might find?

Who knows if we'll ever send people to Mars (it sure seems likely) but having seen how difficult and isolating it was to send people to the moon it may not be as glorious as people think.

Imagine getting on a very small boat with 2 other friends and traveling for three days to the middle of the ocean. When you get there, one person stays on the little boat while 2 others climb into a submarine and start descending for >2 hrs until you hit the bottom of the briny deep. Once there, you gear up into your suit of armor and prepare to enter a habitat that would kill you instantly without it. You spend 2 days rummaging around the seafloor, sometimes hopping around on foot other times riding around on an even smaller sub. Then you get back in the bigger sub, use a small explosion to get it moving back to the surface, and dock with the lone guy waiting on the boat. When you boat finally gets close to land again, it heats up to the point of nearly melting. That's like space, but without the stellar view.

Im all about the hi-jacking. It was dumb of me to post as" the heel" and am thankful all you old farts are here to do my reading for me
I just found it amusing that Trickster calls out my post as hi-jacking, when the first one to do so was redrider's post #13. And there were plenty thereafter, but he chose to call mine out.
I could certainly understand if the thread was still in process of getting questions answered, but the subject has already been answered and drifted from the original question anyhow.
I didn't know there was a rule that multiple discussions couldn't go on in a single thread.
Perhaps I missed that in the moderator rules?
