My concern wasn’t the ability to disable the receiver. As everyone has said, it’s disabled if there is no power to the winch with a disconnect. M issue is possible malfunctions while it’s enabled, meaning it’s actively in use. If it malfunctions while I’m winching up a steep grade, disabling the receiver wouldn’t have helped.
You’re absolutely correct. I’ve sort of avoided addressing this scenario in part because wireless signal interference is less likely in the boonies. However, paradoxically that’s also when you’re more likely to be around other people using a wireless winch. I proved that the signal could be duplicated and it doesn’t use a rolling code, but it could still be unique to each winch which would be good. I sort of doubt that’s the case though. This could possibly mean that another Jeep could actuate your winch with their remote while your’s is in use.

Edit: another failure modality is that to wireless receiver fails on in the winch with no wireless signal present. The remote already fails this way so it not unreasonable to be concerned about the receiver.

If Warn knows that this is a possibility then the whole winch should be recalled. What concerns me is all the little assumptions engineers make about how people use things. Maybe they assume the user of an EVO is less likely to out at some event where multiple people are using winches simultaneously. I wouldn’t put it past them. I’m going to call Warn and talk to them about this rather than guessing what might happen.

I wasn’t worried about signal crossing either. Warn confirmed for me that even the Evo remotes are paired only to one winch. I’m concerned with remote malfunction, not failure. Meaning it would give YOUR paired winch the wrong command while in a recovery situation.

BTW I emailed Warn about whether the supposed coupon was expected to come with the remote. Response: “the coupon code will be emailed to you directly. You should see it in the next week or so.”

Thanks I was curious about that as I didn’t get a coupon with the remote or an email either

Seriously? Just kill power to the damned thing.
People are told to put a cut-off in the line anyway.
Are we not over-thinking this a bit? Like don't crooks have better things to do - like steal the whole danged truck? Are people seriously going to be messing with your winch like this?
People are going to go around parking lots messing with winches to see which ones they can trigger?
Honestly, what are the odds and what would be the point or the gain? If they want to unspool it, all they have to do is flip the clutch lever and PULL.

This is one of the last things I'd ever worry about. How about securing things people are actually going to mess with?
Winches have had remote wireless controls for YEARS. It's not new. How many reports are there out there of people going around with a remote seeing which one they can trigger and messing with it?
Anyone who installs a winch and doesn't have their head in a dark place would have power cut to it anyway/already.
If they don't, then............. I won't say it LOL
But it's for SAFETY, not because people are running around with devices trying to unspool your rope. To what end when the can take your gas, tires, break windows and take contents, or steal the whole truck?
Its funny you mention this. But people are assholes. I don't live in a huge metropolitan area, but I've come out of a bar and had my rear bumper / tire carrier on my JKUR unlatched and when I drove off and turned out the parking lot my tire carrier swung open and smashed my passenger side tail lamp.

If somebody wants to F with you, sadly there really isn't much you can do to stop them

You can limit their shenanigans though. I purposely keep things out of sight in the vehicle, have a winch power disconnect solenoid so it can't be run when the jeep is off, locking gas tank cap, hood lock, etc. Basically remove all the minor stuff they may mess with, and park in a well lit highly visible place away from bar entrances.

Then they're just left with things they could potentially do to any other vehicle, though it's rare for me to see anyone brazenly damage a vehicle through brute force.

Very true, but if I wanted to unspool your winch cable and run it across the parking lot, nothing is stopping me.
Unfortunately its the world we live in today and it sucks. I've read on forums where people steal D rings. Hell, we have assholes stealing cat converters. We just had a big fiasco at a Amazon warehouse in broad daylight at 3pm in afternoon, a band of thieves got caught trying to sawzall cats off. And we're in a small community. How dumb are you in a huge patrolled parking lot with a sawzall crawling under vehicles and making noise cutting off converters. FCA can't even stop the idiots stealing TRX's right off the factory lots at 4 and 5 at a time. Sad times

I've had mine stolen from my receiver mount while visiting another city.

Submitted my recall request. I depinned the wires instead of cutting them.
Jeep Gladiator Warn Winch Recall Resized_20230210_153528

Cleaner job. I also informed them of corrosion inside the remote.
I also unhooked the power cable for the winch, need to get a power interrupt switch. Originally I routed the cables in a way that I wasn't worried about them rubbing through or getting pinched in a wreck. But, having a possible glitch in the remote power up the winch on its own has me second guessing no interrupt switch. Ran my last Warn winch for 30+ years with no interrupt and no issues.

I'll follow up as I hear from Warn.

I de-pinned mine as well, got approved no problem. Should have the gift card within this week as well.
It's actually a code that is e-mailed to you, good for $100 on Warn.com. Then again, there's not a lot of $100 items on there....
