I could see this possibly happening due to the current administration's attitude towards petroleum.
You are correct. This administration has made it very clear where their interests are. They are going to push us into electric vehicles one way or another. The best way to do that is to make internal combustion unaffordable and unrepairable.

All while ignoring that the electricity needed to charge these cars comes from burning petroleum, and the grid is currently not capable of supporting all those cars. Not to mention the destruction of the environment that comes from making those batteries.

They hide behind the guise of environmental protection while they feed their own special interests. Follow the money trail.

You want oil? I have oil all over my garage floor from a 2022 Jeep Gladiator Diesel. This oil leaking piece of garbage has been bleeding oil since I picked it up on 12/31/21. I have had it in my possession a grand total of 11 days.
Paid $74563 for the worst vehicle I have ever owned in my life. Has 659 miles on it. In the dealership now with coolant & oil leaking out of it. No idea when it will be returned. Not this week according to the dealer.
you should sell it and buy a honda

This is my most surprising post to date. 2021 Gladiator Rubicon Ecodiesel. I have been getting appointments throughout the west in an attempt to get an oil change for a month now. Each time I sit around for an hour while they search databases for nonexistent oil filters. Jeep Cares has been working the case. Yesterday they said that even if I could find a filter, oil simply is not available.

Today Jeep said, not only are there over 8,400 people looking for oil filters, there’s no oil anywhere, oh, and fuel filters aren’t available either. They will tell you that they are on “back order” and they even have “shipping dates” but the last two shipments that were said to have oil filters didn’t actually have them.

This is crazy
Pouge cdj in Powderly, ky said they have plenty of them. I can’t verify but that is what the owner of the dealership told me. Oil filters

Synthetic oil is largely produced using natural gas.
Wellll.......... sort of.............
It still involves crude oil base stock.
This is from AMSOIL -
Synthetic base oils are made from crude. But they’re much more highly refined than conventional base oils. Synthetics are a little more varied than petroleum base stocks and are split between Group III hydro-cracked petroleum (addressed in the Summer ‘08 issue), PAO’s and Esters. Today, most synthetics for motor oils are made using Group III base stocks. Mobil and Amsoil continue to use Group IV PAOs.

And from another source:

Synthetic oils are typically created from chemically modified materials such as petroleum components, but the base material is almost always distilled crude oil.

And another:
Both synthetic oil and traditional motor oil are made from refining oil. Most synthetics begin with highly refined crude oil, pumped from deep underground.

So as crude goes up - so does synthetic. Plus - you generally won't see it being cheaper because it's more complex to make and the crude base adds to price.
All this means - as goes crude so goes synthetic.
Natural gas also seems to follow, and LP price follow crude very closely. I'm thankful I'm no longer needing to spend days drying corn with a gas-fired dryer system, YIKES.

The guys panic buying here are creating the shortage. Like a member said, self fulfilling prophecy. Goods get spent and new goods come in.
