That's what everyone says... but nobody actually buys. The wrangler was available with a tiny 5" screen base radio, manual windows, manual tranny, etc as base as you can get (tpms is mandated now, as are airbags, abs, etc) and nobody bought them. Even half the old school Jeepers arguing for these stripped models on the JL forum when actual pressed for what they bought drive loaded up Rubicons. Nobody was buying them so more and more options became standard simply to simplify the build process. The idea that a modern vehicle with computer controlled engine and transmission will be more reliable because you put a base radio and manual windows in it is borderline insanity. Everything that matters and could leave you stranded is still computer controlled and dependent on sensors and wiring, but you get to crank the window down and pretend it's the 80s? Hard pass, and the vast majority of buyers passed on that idea which is why it's now gone.If a company started making an “old truck” for real they would outsale everything on the market.

I agree completely. If it weren’t for adventuring, it’d be a Silverado or a Ram.If I wasn't going to wheel it, I never understood the midsize truck market anyway. A parking spot is a parking spot. I park the JT in the same spaces I used to park my super duty and the same ones I park my company prius in. Smaller with worse truck specs, interior space, and only slightly better fuel economy and at comparable prices? Where the draw aside from wheeling/ fitting on right trails. If I wanted a street truck with mild off road ability I'd still be in a ram rebel. The thing got better fuel economy on 35s with the 5.7L even driven like I wanted to use all 400hp than the gladiator does on 37s by about 30%. Towed more, way more interior space, more payload, and it was almost $10k less msrp.
That's just not true, and exactly the kind of out-of-touch comment that makes these threads such an interesting read.If a company started making an “old truck” for real they would outsale everything on the market.

I loath ,hate abhor & detest Toyota trash. They are worthless off road up hill unless your in 4wd and in the lowside and the traction control turned off. If you push ine for 100,000 it will die. I know because over a period of 2 years I put 100,000 miles on one and blew it up. Every day was 4wd to get anywhere. You can barely pass anyone it is so slow . If you floor one to pass all the time they can't take it . They literally will come to a shudder and power completely out on grades above 20% . If you hit a whitetail you better had a whole new front clip they are toast . I wouldn't take a toyota if you gave me one. I wouldn't want the stigma. The last generation 4runner was only ~14 years old and still had a 5 speed auto until the new one so if Jeeps following Toyotas lead there will be no new engine option and no real improvements until 2033? Pass. I'll take an antiquated v8 over toyotas hybrid/4cyl garbage any day. Perspective.
Yep, capitalism works that way. But I’ve been hearing about the Gladiator’s demise since 2020, when they first came out, from folks just guessing with zero actual insight into the matter or facts to back it up. And the core vehicle has been around since WW-II.Jeep will sell the Gladiator as long as the numbers work; otherwise, the Jeep Truck Graveyard For a niche vehicle. Just sayin'
It's as serious as many people need it.........And I always struggle to understand why these are compared to any other mid sized truck ever. They’re wranglers and pickups combined. I bought it because I wanted a wrangler that could tow better than a wrangler. Other than that, it’s a toy that pretends to be a truck. I couldn’t be happier. It was never meant to be a serious truck. It’s meant to be a fun one.
NO ONE PROMISED any V8 for the Gladiator. Where did you get the idea we got the promise of a V8? No one promised that except in a few people's heads reading the rags that misquoted or put out misleading stories.and the promise of an antiquated V-8 all for an overpriced mid-sized truck.
