How do you like the snorkel on your diesel?

It's 180 miles to the nearest beach
but less than one mile to sand.

My county does not pave county roads.
There are endless miles of sand to explore.

We have had a lot of rain recently
which helps pack down the sand
but when it has been dry for a long time
simply walking in the sand can be challenging.

The sandy soil here
is great for peanuts and watermelons.

The local high school football team
is known as the Sandies
and has a dust devil for a mascot.

Back in the bad old days,
when 4x4 trucks were rare,
snow fencing was used in some places
to keep sand drifts off the roads.
Since then, agricultural practices have improved.

Having a 4x4 is not necessary but it is reassuring.
Every truck you see at the feed store now is a 4x4.

How do you like the snorkel on your diesel?

It’s good. It keeps the air filter considerably cleaner. I’m not sure it makes me more confident to drive into deep water considering all the electrical issues I suspect these trucks have. Certainly no one should ever drive a vehicle through salt water of any depth if they can avoid it, so its water fording benefit is for the mountains.

It is noisy with the prefilter, which is required to juke the stupid ECU, but I don’t mind or usually notice the sound it makes and I drive with the top down and windows open pretty much exclusively 7 months out of the year.

Install was easy if you’ve got finesse and mechanical ability.

Finally!! after two years owning this thing, (and many hospital trips interfering) we got to the beach with the top and doors off. It’s the only way it counts for me, so here is my updated pic from Thursday. Brigantine Jetty, NJ.

I like to fire up the grill, then sit up on the bed rack with binoculars watching the humpbacks play while lunch is cooking. Still waiting to see a great white chowing down on a seal in the shallows.

Not exactly on the beach but on sand near the beach. As close as I've been able to get so far.
I'll be finding that undisclosed location Mash! I have an idea, but not sure if I'm correct
