Hey you that know things.. What can we do to prevent this type of vulnerability?
Well I just went and bought a 6MT with manual locks with nothing valuable inside, I went for the undersirable route. But basicaly anything that takes longer to start/get into a vehicle deters theft. Nothing will be 100%, and someone will always find a way. Kill switches are always great but can be annoying on new cars as you tend to get codes by "disconnecting" things. I will always say just dont make yourself an easy target and avoid leaving valuables in the vehicle, especially in view

You'd have to choose carefully, or put up with codes.
These track what's going on so thoroughly.........you need to prevent it from even looking for a reason it's not starting.

But you can't prevent tow-aways without keeping it in a locked building with alarms and surveillance.

And keep the damned FOBS away from outside walls while you sleep or eat dinner. Geesh.

Ravelco. Hardwired systems interrupt that would be a PITA to reverse wire trace and bypass.
You missed the discussion of that over-priced "feature" in another thread.

Tank chain around the axle, and bolted to the cement slab driveway works well too

Anyone doing this? Or are we just talking about it.

If I were as paranoid about it as these guys are (and didn't live down a private, secluded road) I might do that.

Haha I was thinking the same thing and I got pulled over yesterday. I was thinking what the hell am I being pulled over for. The cops approached my vehicle cautiously with hands by their guns and I was in the car with my wife and daughter. I just sat there with my hands on the top of the steering wheel and told my wife and daughter just sit tight. They came to my truck and I rolled down the windows. They looked around and advised me to please give them my drivers license and keep my hands on the steering wheel. I asked them what was up and he informed me that my truck was showing as stolen. I told them sorry that is not possible its my truck and I have the papers to prove it. They told me to just sit tight. After some discussion, etc turns out and I had no idea someone had stolen my license plates and replaced them with plates that were showing as stolen. So we got everything worked out and now I do not have any license plates any longer as they took the plates. and filed report that my original plates were stolen. I have to go tomorrow to get new plates and registration.
Bit of a uneasy feeling watching police with hands at the ready come up on your vehicle with your family in it but I do understand the caution and situation.
Wow. I'm sorry you had to go through that with your family. This makes me feel a little better about going through the trouble of securing my plates with anti-theft screws. I was thinking maybe I was a little too paranoid. But those screws might be just enough to make them go the vehicle next to me and take their plates.

I'm wondering if a kill switch isn't as simple as interrupting the Start button circuit with a hidden switch or a jumper wire. I would think that shouldn't cause any computer codes.

I already have an aftermarket security system with a hood alarm and an engine disabler. However, that can be bypassed if someone has cloned my key fob. This thread makes me think I should add a kill switch as I described above. However, if someone can access the CAN bus doesn't that mean they can bypass a disabled Start button?

That would probably be the easiest way, basically have a wire cut for it. But you have to find a line thats nominal with no voltage going through it.
