What did you do WITH your Gladiator today?

I see you’re from TN. Call Smokey Mountain Knife Works. The last few times I was in Pigeon Forge, they had a bin of Meg teeth in the 3-4” range In their random knick knack section. They weren’t bad, price wise, from what I remember (maybe $30).

It’s funny you should say that…back in the day before a bunch of people were picking the “ledges” off NC, guys used to haul them up by the bucket load. There’s still plenty of them down there, you just have to look a little harder for them. I.e. The ones on the gray container lid were found over the course of three dives (~25 min of bottom time per dive at 105’).

The shape of the root and tooth is the giveaway, though the shape of the tooth varies a bit depending on where it was located (similar to the teeeth in any other critters mouth). The ‘Easy’ button way of judging it though Is that anything over ~3“ in length is going to be a Meg, as it was pretty much the only species that got large enough to produce teeth that size (if I remember correctly, there are 1-2 related species that lived 1+ million years ago that also produced teeth in the 3”+ range).

They’re fairly common up to 5” or so. Much over 5.5” are less common. The largest that I found was 5.91”. They’re found at 6”+, but those are far less common.

Value wise…they’re all over the board. None that I found would be classified as collector or museum grade, with the exception of one 2” tooth that had intact serrations. I don’t have a picture of that one handy.

If you decide to buy one, this place is legit. They do sell some items that are clearly labeled as replica, so keep an eye out for that. I.e. If you want a huge tooth, but don’t care if it‘s “real.”

Thank you for all the information... I am for sure going to check out that site, and store next time im in pigeon forge area... insane how big those teeth are, I still cant believe they are just chilling down there for you to grab (obviously I believe it) just hard to think about that. I have only snorkeled one time before and found some trash.

Santa Clarita area, SoCal. That's Rowher Flats to Bouquet Canyon. It was 75 and light breezes up top, perfect weather. 90 down in town. The club is Channel Islands 4x4, a great group. Facebook only, no dues, very family friendly, and there is pretty much a run a month.

I thought the terrain looked SoCal. I live in Sacramento area, but travel to SoCal couple times a year to visit family. Will have to keep an eye out and try to match trips. Thanks for the info?

Boating Day 1 for 2022. First time hauling it with the Gladiator after trading the RAM in. Hauled better than I expected for 4,400lbs. Spent a lot of its time in 6-7 on the highway, 5 going up steeper inclines. Does it whine more than the hemi…. Yeah. But the pentastar is fine for this kind of action..? before the RAM I had a Trailhawk WK2 and hauled the same boat all the way to Florida from NC with pentastar and it was all good.

Find and Things Friday with @Offroadnewbie. Top of the World yesterday. Steel Bender today before driving home. Did the wall without issue (rolled right over it), but u-turned at dragons tail and skipped widow maker. Super sweet trails. Met up with some nice Toyota folks today. Some very interesting recovery situations. Not because they were Toyotas though. Sketchy terrain. Strapped a 4 runner down dragons tail, then winched two of them back up it when the next obstacle was virtually impassable. Great day. No damage, and used almost every recovery item I own.

Yea I hear you, I did offer my traction boards. I've got 3 kids to chase around and a wench but no winch. We're in Daytona so plenty outfitted for the rescue

This was also like the 4th vehicle I saw with no business being out on the beach just yesterday alone. Pretty comical to see what people try to take out

Yeah…. I’m all about helping folks, but here in FL, the pretentious attitude of so many I probably would have offered a bottle of water. Especially with vehicles with no attachment points you’re looking to get served summons if you deform a plastic panel or damage anything on the vehicle. It’s a shame that it’s that way but it is what it is. They took a chance bringing a vehicle out on the sand that had no business being there, so they can pay a wrecker.

Got into Moab yesterday, unfortunately my friends rig developed a nasty leak on his rear axle pinion seal. Today dropped it off with Rory aka trail mater! Woot!!! , to get fixed. Did part of Schafer trail onto white rim trail for a bit. Now just chilling at the place waiting for his rig get done and we gonna hit top of the world tomorrow!

Did part of Schafer trail onto white rim trail for a bit. Now just chilling at the place waiting for his rig get done and we gonna hit top of the world tomorrow!

That’s crazy. I got home late last night, but will be back Thursday. Top of the world is a great trail. I’ll do that again for sure.
