I had a similar comment to yours a few months back. I basically said if you don’t off road then you shouldn’t own a Jeep.
I know there are a ton of better daily drivers than Jeeps but I actually enjoy driving my Jeep. I’ve almost bought a daily a few times recently but there’s nothing practical I’d buy that I’d want to grab the keys to that vehicle over the Jeep.

I noticed you have a bed rack. In your opinion, what’s the difference between a bedrack and a camper shell? Generally, they both weigh a good amount and your Jeep doesn’t know the difference. Being able to lock your gear, keep it dry and dust free is a benefit for a lot of people.
Thanks for the Feed back. My RTT and Rack weigh in at.....105 lbs, all alloy, 4 wing nuts and it removes from my bed in under 5 minutes. I'm talking camper shells, like the pic below. I like driving my jeep to work maybe once a month in the summer with the offroad doors on and the top down. but I really like my Supra as my daily driver. 38 miles of highway driving each day, its just way more fun/nimble for traffic or open road pavement. Hope to see you on the trails

That makes a lot of sense. I agree with you on that. If you want a camper shell of that style a full size truck truck is a much better tool for the job.
Funny you drive a Supra! I was looking at Supras and m240i xdrives. Now I’m leaning towards the new m2. Unfortunately none of them are very practical haha.

The Bronco Raptor has 13" of front travel and 14" in the rear. And about 130 more HP.

I don't think there is any chance you could hang with one in the desert.
Apparently all you gotta do is get the Raptor driver to be overconfident in his Ford's ability... seems easy enough.

I’m just here again to take back what I said about 40s looking dumb on JTs. I was young, dumb, weak, and scared…Now, I am enlightened. I want 40s some day ?

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I think videos of idiots destroying stuff are stupid.
Agreed, although the 392 was very impressive up until he pushed it a little too hard through the whoops. Proves that the Jeep is capable of much higher speeds in the desert than most of us will ever try. People have been telling we for years that you can't drive a JLU at speed in the desert until I show them the Gaia log from one of out mojave trips with a maximum speed of 93mph. I'm not trying to run it through the whoops at that speed but the smooth second are not a problem. The JT would obviously handle the whoops better than the 392 thanks to the extra wheelbase, which would also help against the bronco. With the same driver the bronco Raptor beats the mojave, but most bronco owners either aren't pushing the thing or they think it's a trophy truck like the guy in the F150 raptor and will quickly find out its not.

Would like to see an independent front suspension option for a primarily road driven JT. ?‍♂
Literally every other midsize truck has that configuration. Can we please not mess with the last solid axle midsize truck by trying to make it a Tacoma?

You don't always need to regear.

I've had 3 jeeps now with larger than stock tires...never regeared. I completely understand that math and the feel....but...the road driving doesn't suffer enough, gas mileage doesn't suffer enough for a couple grand in gears and install...and...for those offroading, the Rubicon crawl ratio is more than sufficient...

In an endless money world would I do 4.88, maybe...maybe....but I'm not fully convinced it's even that necessary for road and off-road driving...

Remember the idea of this thread is "unpopular" opinions ?

Several in my Jeep crowd disagree, others agree, which makes it fun...but that alone stands to reason it's driver dependent. And as always it should be reflective of use. If it were an offroader solely or mostly, 5:13. If I live outside of Moab but it was a dd, 4:88. Here in VA for what offroading and driving, 4:10 work fine.

Enjoy the ride.

I don't think your opinion is unpopular.

Of all the Jeeps on the road with bigger tires, probably 80-90% are still running stock gears.

All 442 ft-lb of torque in my diesel agree.

Probably accurate....on the forums however it's always casted as "gonna regear in the future". Always makes me chuckle as I think..."no you're not"

And...it's to each his/her own for sure....just a funny dynamic we find here on the forums.
