I was putting Rubi shocks on my sport when I noticed a blue and yellow shock (Bilstein) between my frame and rear differential. I don’t recall seeing this at the dealership on the others. It does not have a part number and I can’t find mention of it anywhere on the web.

Likely a torque control for axle wrap but with a 5 link system and a sway bar I have no clue why you'd still need it. Fwiw I have the brackets but not the shock. Interesting. What model, features is your gladiator?

All I can come up with is maybe they are remedying a vibration or noise. Here’s the build sheet:

It might be related to the manual transmission option. Googling up RAM trucks they also have that option for manual trannys, so may be a carry over of that design.

Inventory search shows 26 of 35 manual trans trucks (in my area) have the tow package, so the OP's configuration isn't exceedingly rare. I would think this limits axle wrap from shift shock.

This is an old thread, but the axle damper has come up a few times in a few posts. Anyone that is interested in adding one of these to their JT, the parts can now be ordered.

What is the purpose of it? Edit- Just did some googling. Looks like its to prevent axle wrap on the sport manuals? Interesting...ive never seen one before, although ive never looked for one before either. Shrug.

Yes, it is to minimize axle hop with a manual transmission. If I remember correctly, all the pictures of these, that have been posted here, have been from Sports with the MT.
