I'm running 37's on my stock wheels 17x7.5, tires are 37 12.5 17 Kanati trail hogs. I ran Goodyear MTRs I'm the same size on them. I got a spec sheet from Discount tire, I'll try to find it and post it.

He is implying that there is no specific answer to your question
Wheels are all opinions on what is good and what is not.

As far as sizing goes I've been looking at are 17Ă—8.5 specifically hutcheson rock monsters. Or some Icon Alloys rebound pros.

The stock wheels 7" or 7.5" are too narrow for 37's, i.e. they will have too much crown reducing your contact area at normal pressures. And running them too low would cause poor fuel economy and more tire wear. Atleast that's my shade tree mechanic view of things.

Did they give you any fuss about mounting and balancing the tires?

Heres mine for reference, 37 12.5 17 KantI trail Hogs mounted on my stock steelies wheels. I run 33lbs of pressure in them, got good contact points and they are wearing evenly. Probably got 3,000 miles on them so far and I'm getting 17.2 mpg average, as high as 18.1 on a beach trip.

I am also running 37s, and I personally try to get as light as wheel and tire as possible. For me that has paid off in better performance. For Wheels I went with 17x8.5 Method Bead grip 703 in matte black (approx. 26 lbs). These are light and are made to hold a bead better at low psi. For Tires, I went with the Goodyear MTR Kevlar - the lightest MTR 37 (approx. 71 lbs). I bought at Discount tire/Americas tire, and I make an appointment and have them rotated and balanced for free every 5K miles. So, far after 16K miles they are wearing great. With 37s, I recommend you get free balance and rotation and follow a 5K or 7K schedule for re-balance and rotation. Otherwise, you may not be happy with your tires....
Note: even with 37's, if you 4 wheel in Rocks, ie. Badge of Honor, you will scratch up your wheels, so, it is best not to spend a lot on wheels and get a color that you can easily touch up with touch up paint. After almost 1 year, I have a small bottle of black satin touch up paint that I have used on all 4 of my wheels already. Here are some pics.

I went with AEV wheels in a 17x8.5 size. The AEV wheels have a Gladiator specific +25 offset, which makes the wheels fit perfectly without any tire poking out of the fenders.

Pics please. I’m looking at the AVE wheels as well. I don’t want tire poke either.

Check out AEV if you like the factory backspacing and offset! Your tires will not stick out very much at all! AEV makes 3 styles specific for the Gladiator.
