After yet another fiasco with control arm bushings today (part of the fun is fixing these), checked out Schnebly Hill and got a nighttime tour of table mesa from @azmojave. That “dirt road” that is table mesa, I now know has connections to several very fun and technical trails. I just got a tiny taste while eating dust in the dark. I’ll explore more tomorrow for a bit. But I believe @azmojave when he says it would take a while to see all of this. Venture off the tame dirt road and have plenty of fun.

So the day started out with my wife saying, let’s go see the lake. We were camping and apparently there was a lake further up the road. There was no plan for wheeling, as she’s not the biggest fan. And then…the day got much more interesting. Thanks belly skid!

@Summitdan you may have chosen the wrong line for that obstacle. LMAO jk looks like a nice photo op. Very jealous since I haven't been offroad since my wife's surgery a couple months ago

The joke is, I fully expected to need the belly skid on that line, but the alternative was a really nasty 27 degree off camber line right next to the edge. I was trying to avoid that by sacrificing some of my belly skid. You wouldn’t be jealous if you’d heard heard the whole story. I chose a nice tree directly ahead and slightly downhill of me, hooked up the winch with a tree saver and dampener, and used some careful gentle winch pressure while in the vehicle. It was going fine as the front wheels were on their way down to the ground. I paused to ask my wife if there was any drop off on my passenger side that I couldn’t see. There wasn’t. So I went back to gentle winching in. All of a sudden it slid to passenger about 15 feet along the rock shelf. It was the opposite of cool, and happened very fast. I’ve been on dozens of obstacles that have genuinely made me nervous in the past. This one surprised me. It’s very lucky the Jeep didn’t broadside my wife, on its way off the shelf road. That one will take some time to settle down after. The go pro was recording on the dash when it happened. I’m relatively sure it’ll give me nightmares when I get around to watching it. Neither of us were mad at one another, nor did we think it was negligent or careless. It just happened completely differently than we expected, and it happened very fast. I know I’ve got a great wife, as she’s not mad, and didn’t tell me to ditch my favorite hobby.

Land Between the Lakes. Took an easy ring route after cooking lunch out there.

Oops! That sure looks like jaws1 on Mt Blanca? Did you at least get to the lake.? If it was Blanca did you I you get to the two lakes at the end of the road?

I've been itching to get back up there but I'm reluctant to try it in the gladiator

Good eye. Blanca off of lake como road. Almost. Would have made it if it were dry, or if we had a second Jeep with us I would have continued. Slippery rocks, so I made the call to do it another day. When do you want to join me? We got to 10,800 or 10,900, so we were really close.

I could maybe do next Sunday. Saturday is busy, but I could drive their Saturday night and camp before doing it the next day.

We went and camped at coon’s creek for the weekend. We rode Clark’s Summit trial. 1N04 to 1N54 and around to Big Bear on Saturday. The lower section was pretty nice. It was really mellow mostly through haughty meadows with a couple deep rut sections. The upper 1N54 was a little hairier. More narrow along cliffs with one spot that we had to use a chainsaw to cut back part of a log across the trail with a cliff on the other side. I made it through on my Glad but my son-in-law drives a Titan and keep the right tire on the ledge with clearing the end of the log. Overall it was a great trip and had a lot of fun.

Lol sheeedh Dan. I was thinking more like weeks not days... I'm old and don't move that quickly, besides my granddaughter is here this week. Maybe in a couple weeks? I don't have my winch mounted yet either and it may take me z bit to get it done. I've only found one bumper that will take it (Warn 8274) and I don't like the look or price of it. Where in Co do you live? I went to hs in.monument where my wife and her sisters still own their family cattle ranch. and we have land outside saguache that we "camp" on

Ha ha. No rush. We’ll find a good weekend. We’re in Silverthorne. Next venture makes a bumper specifically for that winch, and it’s aluminum.
