Fwiw- I run BFG KO2 37s on Mopar 2” on my JTR 8 speed

a few things to note:

1. BFG sizes run smaller than advertised
2. The 8 speed auto makes it work on the stock 4.10 gearing of the rubicon
3. We live at 10k feet in elevation
4. Regear would be nice but not mandatory
5. We wheel all the time
6. If you must have the passing pep back then 4.88 or 5.13 would definitely help, we aren’t struggling, but also realize we are pushing a brick with a camper attached
7. Our speedo didn’t need a correction with the 37s (based on the local speed cameras)

pm me if you want more details. Because of of the long wb went 37 and glad we did.

TL/DR

if you do off-roading and need the extra clearance 37
If no, stay with 35

we like KO2
How often do you see 7th and 8th gears?

I actually tried to provide some food for thoughts about this yesterday.
I discuss a few things on offset, wheel width, spacers, etc.
What I did not cover was regearing because it's extremely config specific.
Hopes this helps a tiny bit.
It depends on how you want to use the vehicle, what you are ready to give up, and your priorities.
For me, I couldn't justify a lift quite yet, so I went with a configuration that allows me to do everything I wanted offroad without a lift, and it's been working great so far.

A couple of more points (specific to my setup, if this helps):
  • gears: 3.73
  • 3.0L EcoD
  • Most of the time, 8th gear on the freeway, sometimes 7 if there is a slight slope, 6 in more challenging mountain passes
  • MPG (appropriately recalibrated): avg 21.42
  • TOYO M/T 37x12.5r17: they pull right a bit. It's annoying, compared to EOM 33s, but I'm getting used to it and compared to what it allows me to do offroad... I accept it.

I just put 35s on my Sport S MT. Having a MT helps with gear selection. At 75 mph moderate hills (Ozark Mountains) I rarely use 6th gear, but I rarely used 6th with 33s. Top 33, bottom 35

The 37" C rated BFG AT is hard to beat for the weight, looks and ride quality.

I would not waste thousands re-gearing just for 37’s.

If you’re going to make it into a one dimensional, mpg killer, offroad rig, go all out… go 40+ and do it once, and do a lot more than just that.

Otherwise keep it setup as an all around vehicle that’s extremely capabale off-road with 33-35’s

IMHO 37s strike a nice balance between capable trail rig and DD.
I love 40s....But I don't think I would DD on 40s.

I'm thinking of 35's with 18inch Black Rhino or Fuel wheels - anyone have this setup? I've heard the Mojave does just fine with 35's and doesn't need a lift and/or leveling kit.

My 37s look smaller every day with my Clayton 2.5" diesel lift

Same tires look better on the wife's Mojave with a 2" spacer lift. Her stock wheels work just fine but the Mojave wheels have less backspacing than stock Rubicon.

Is that the AEV lift on your wife's Mojave? She is basically driving my truck's twin, so I'm kind of peering into the future here... lol

Not only 37s, but 37x13.5 here all day long and will never look back. Went with Cooper STT Pros and will do same when I replace. Yes, I did re-gear. It’s a must. Min 4:88s. 18 mpgs all day long.

I wanted the best on road manners I could get that didnt sacrifice anything for off roading.
Thank you. I don't understand how people think a "slight dip in performance" and "a slight dip in mpg" should be considered normal. My wife's JLU drives like absolute trash on 35s. I feel like it wouldn't even move on 37s.

To the OP, go find someone with 35s or 37s in your area, make friends with them, and ask if you can drive their Jeep for a couple miles just to see if it's right for you. Some people might be a little more lenient on how the car drives, but if it doesn't run, drive, and shift like stock, it's not right for me.

This all day ….37s are an easy DD With the right setup. I would even say my 37 setup is more comfortable than stock. Have made several 8 hour trips and have been very comfortable.

Yes sir. I prefer it over the 4+ inches that I got up front on the Clayton kit.

Anybody have thoughts on 37 x 11.5’s? Nitto has them, 71 lbs. I don’t need 37’s, but I have an irrational desire for them. I’d think they would be somewhat better on mpg and should challenge the stock Rubicon gearing a bit less. I have no idea how to quantify that or compare to say 35 x 12.5’s.

Whats the weight on the 35x12.5's? Comparable weight will give you comparable performance. The 37's will of course lose you a bit of gearing compared to 35's but you're not even talking a full step in gears and the 8 speed will make up for it pretty well.

Agreed. 4" lifts are just excessive unless you're stuffing 40s under a Sport/Overland.

Because it’s what’s smart vs what you really want.
