I continue to pay AT&T for wifi Hotspot services for my Gladiator, but my devices say that they are "connected without internet". Can anyone tell me what's going on this wifi Hotspot in the Gladiator? I called AT&T and they say that there is a problem with a recent UConnect update which prevents the wifi Hotspot from working. Any ideas?

There's another thread somewhere on this. Rebooting the radio seems to fix it for a while.

I hate to ask but why would you use it. Car based modems are usually slower than just using your cell phone as a WiFi host. a/k/a tethering.

Though I don't know anything about the service, if they give you unlimited data, it might be worth it because it will allow you to keep your phones on lower data plans.

The service is unlimited and I have two teenagers that constantly stream the instasnaptubegram junk whenever we are in the car.

Yup, then it makes perfect sense if it lets you avoid expensive data charges on your phones.

We have 2 jeeps with the wifi. 15 bucks/month each. Our 2 cell phones from Xfinity mobile are 17.92 per month for BOTH for 1 gig or less data.
We also have a siriusXM in our VW for 5 bucks a month and that will let us stream from the APP. Total 53 bucks a month and have SiriusXM in all 3.
2 phones with unlimited data is 90 bucks a month.

Any updates to this ? I got a 2023 Rubicon and when I try to sign up for an unlimited plan, the ATT site says that my vehicle is not compatible. The 4g service definitely works because the screen has a 4glte symbol and bars.. I just want to sign up for this service.

Seems like the Stellantis merger and ATT excuse is a cop out..

There are some other threads on this. Apparently, there is a hardware issue with the current revision of the 8.4 uConnect that prevents the Hotspot from working correctly. Until a fix is available, they have stopped selling the service.

There's a TSB out there. AT&T has decided the hardware in the Jeep isn't compatible. I blame AT&T as much as anything or anyone.
New subscriptions were suspended back last summer. "until further notice".
With most phones now coming with unlimited data - I wonder if it's a money thing for AT&T.
Heck, even USCC has unlimited data in their phone plans - and they are always the last to follow the others.

not surprising....when a company doesn't make as much money as they want they tend to just stop supporting whatever product it was - I just hope that doesn't happen to the gladiator for a very long time

If it is a money issue, it is probably due to roaming agreements with other carriers. AT&T provides the cellular service nationwide for the head unit. In areas where they don't have coverage, they have to pay the carriers that do so the cellular connection will work. Selling unlimited service in an area where you have to buy it from another carrier can get very expensive.

From what I've read in other threads, there is a hardware issue with some of the head units. The HotSpot feature will stop functioning, and it takes a radio reset/reboot to get it working again. This can be a source of massive support issues for AT&T. Without a fix from the head unit manufacturer, AT&T would have no choice but to declare it incompatible and stop selling service for it.

Stop functioning...I would be lucky if it worked when I drove it off the lot. It never worked from day one I feel like it is a total gimmick

So guess I am SOL.. my wife and I were looking forward to that hotspot. We only have 12gb with Verizon, but it's nice to have other carriers. Seems like when Verizon doesn't work, our work phones would 'work'. I used to have a t mobile work phone and my wife has ATT.

We were looking forward to the $200/ yr unlimited data for long adventure trips where we wouldn't have to use our Verizon data.

I think it’s more of an ATT issue. Last year ATT began a shut down of their 3g service, something that affected a lot of built in car hotspots. Porsche for example discovered that some of their newer car owners were SOL because there was no upgrade path for their hardware.

We ended up ok on the hardware side, but as the 3g shutdown progressed a number of features that used to work don’t anymore, like car location, locking/unlocking doors getting mileage and service info etc. I do use the car hotspot from time to time, but lately have had to tether the notebook to my phone.

As a Jeep note, our JT came through with an e connect “optional” delete. Truck was ordered by the dealer & we took the order over. When I queried why they did it, the dealer said it was the only way they could order the trucks in Feb 22.
