I’m starting to look into winches and the winch plates needed to mount them. My question is. What are the options for winch mounting plates for the mopar steel bumper. Any recommendations and Anything to stay away from? Obviously it’s a critical piece so I want to get some opinions on what’s out there.

Love my bulldog winch plate. It's heavy/beefy and has support notched in and welded to the bottom of the plate. It sits behind the bumper mounting flange so doesn't interfere with bumper mounting at all. It's an easy install.

Thanks Shadow. I was looking at this one and saw one of the reviews saying they didn’t recommend it with the badlands 12k. Obviously it’s what you’re running from the picture so just curios on your thoughts. It does look well built and easy to install and I’m cool with that price point.

It does make the winch I have sit lower than a cheapy plate I used before. So I had to notch the clutch release lever a bit more.
Ideally, you'd space the winch up a little bit.
And if I trade or decide to "re-do" any of this, I will do just that, space the winch up maybe 3/16" up. It would also center the rope a bit better in the bumper opening.

That's the only things I can think of - might want to space the winch up a tad. Otherwise, it makes the winch sit fine with the grill and all other aspects.

Probably lots of nice ones. I can only comment on the Grimm winch plate I have, which is super well made.

I purchased a winch plate from ATP (american trail products) out of California. They make the winch plate here in the US and they powder coated it. The only issue I had with installing the winch was I got a warn steel cable on sale late last year and the power cables stick out a lot (could be me the installer's issue but it's a good snug fit and the price was very reasonable. took some time to get the plate since it was during the thanksgiving/christmas holidays but overall i'm happy.

The Grimm looks to be the simplest one to install since you don't have to align the plate with the bumper mounting bolt holes. The problem I see with it is that it is about half or more the cost of the winch. I might still consider it if I can't find something better.

I put the Maximus-3 plate on all three of my (OEM steel bumper) Jeeps. Easy to install and pretty much any winch just drops right in. Warn Zeons are a tiiiight fit but they do fit. Others are a piece of cake.

I used the American Trail Products winch plate. Very beefy and very easy one piece install. I also used spacers to bump the winch up to help the clutch lever on the Badlands clear the OEM steel bumper.

Digging this. Where / how did you relocate the control box and what did you use for a cover over the top of the winch?

Thanks, I’ve been very happy with the clean look as well.

I followed this post by @Sorbs to relocate the control box. The Badlands winch comes with most of everything you need to relocate and just need to buy the longer cables as mentioned in this thread:

Sorbs’ write up for control box relocation

I modified the “box” that comes with the Apex so it would all fit in the space next to the battery. I also recently used the Warn winch solenoid kit to clean up the wiring and have the solenoid act as my cut-off switch which I can then control via my factory aux switches.

I then added an ABS plastic cover over the exposed line. I wrote about this here:

Let me know if there’s anything else I can answer. Have fun!
