I didn't cast a vote as I'm not sure the FCA would offer the V8 in a Jeep with the Manual Transmission and we already know it won't be available on the diesel. No MT No buy.

I voted Hemi. It's a proven reliable platform. has 400-ish hp and tq right out of the box. So it has all the power needed to comfortably tow or haul anything you put behind it. It has low maintenance costs. It's just the less complicated and more wallet friendly option of the two.
A diesel is a much better all around choice. BUT with modern emissions add ons, it ruins every benefit of having the diesel. Yes those things can be deleted. But that's a lot of extra money right off the bat on top of an already expensive vehicle. 15-20 years ago, I would have definitely preferred the diesel option. But there is no benefit in today's world. Plus to add to that, I don't know how to repair a diesel engine, especially a modern one.

If the new Bronco has that 2.7 turbo, FCA will likely counter with some sort of turbo (regardless of fuel type).
I would be beyond shocked to see a large-displacement n/a engine in a Wrangler ever again, those days are past. Never say 'never' tho right?

I agree completely. On both counts. And as much as it pains me to do so, I'd even go as far as to say the days are numbered for a gas V8 in mainstream full size 1/2 ton trucks. There maybe an exception for special edition models. But with the success of the Ford Ecoboost V6, along with GM putting a turbo 4 cyl in a full size truck, AND people saying its actually decent. That says a lot. Plus the rumors are out there of some sort of turbo 6cyl engine for the Ram 1500. Whether it's a V6 or I6, I'm not sure. But either way, that shows that FCA-PSA (or whatever they are called now) is looking to move away from the V8 in their light duty trucks as well.

Hemi all day. My perfect world solution would be a Hemi derived v6, more displacement and torque than the pentastar, and the assembly would be quite a bit lighter I think.

I'm more than satisfied with the 3.6L though.

I see it the opposite. Fords EcoBoost engine family has been plagued with issues since day 1 and if you look at individual engine options their V8 still is the #1 volume seller.

Ram and GM have stuck with V8s and have eaten some of Ford's market share.

Also, V8 muscle cars are seeing a resurgence in popularity in recent years.

The V8 isn't going anywhere. Buyers are saying they want them with their checkbooks.

Jeep is already developing a new inline turbo 6 that will be available for the Gladiator and could be known as the Hercules.
It will have several power options including up to 525 HP !
Tornado GME-T6
Precious little info out there on it, tho -

I would never be pissed off at someone else’s opinion. They are entitled to it.

That said, I have a 6.4L hemi in my Rubi and it is awesome!!!

The 3.6 was plenty peppy and suitable. I have no issue with it, however, I think FCA made an error not offering a V8 option that would allow EVERYONE to live their opinion in their truck.
That 6.4L is a great motor, had one in a Daytona and loved it. As long as we're dreaming, I'd prefer it to the 5.7.

I can't agree with this part of your

Having problems doesn't discount the success of the engine. The 5.0 has it fair share of issues as well. The 5.0 only accounts for 25% of F150 sales, so it's NOT the volume engine. And 10% is the base V6. So that's a combined 65% for the 2 turbo V6 engines. Don't misunderstand me. I am NOT a fan of the ecoboost engines. I work for Ford. I drive an F150, and my previous 2 trucks were also F150's. All have been during the ecoboost generation and all have been V8's. The first two were 5.0's and current is a 6.2. I avoid the ecoboost engines like the plague BECAUSE of their problems. BUT, THEY ARE THE SALES LEADER. And the trend across vehicles in general, not just truck, is downsized engines with turbocharging to boost power numbers. Like it or not (I don't). The car companies wouldn't be offering more and more V8 alternatives if they weren't selling. But sales numbers are showing that they are selling. And the more that they build, the better the reputation will get. The Ram has not been immune either. With the pentastar coming out, Ram all of a sudden had a great V6 to offer. And truck buyers responded by buying more 3.6 rams than the previous 3.7 and 3.9 versions ever sold. And the 3.6 still sells very well in the ram. If they could figure out a way to put turbos on the Pentastar and get it to hold together. As for Ram's gaining market share it's hard to say that it's because of just the offering of a V8. The new body Ram is leaps and bounds better than any of it's competition in the interior department and that plays a HUGE role. Plus, Ram now offers the new body as well as the 1500 classic which is the old bodystyle. It was initially supposed to be a stop-gap during the changeover while the factory got up to speed buidling the new style. But they saw the old style was still popular with buyers and was still selling well. So here we are, 3 years AFTER the new body release, and FCA has said they are not planning to discontinue the 1500 classic in the near future. With it being a bit cheaper than the new body, it is a great value option in the full size truck world and offers a lot of truck for the money. So basically, I'm not saying the V8 is getting phased out right this moment, but it is happening, slowly but surely. But I think of all the manufacturers, FCA will be the last one to let go. Even the next generation Tundra was recently rumored to be offering a small displacement turbo engine option.

I wish we could get a decent 4 cyl turbo in the gladiator. That is all this truck needs for most applications. Modern turbo 4s are powerful, rich in torque, and fuel efficient. A V8 is total overkill.
