Is there a "What I didn't get to do to my Gladiator today" thread? Was going to put on my bedrug and Roll-N-Lock, but the roll up canister was damaged in shipping. Luckily I ordered from @RealTruck, and they have taken good care of me. Just mad I have to wait.

I would try to bend in back into place since it is thin aluminum sheet metal. However, I paid for new and would always be worried about water penetration and if the rolling function was compromised.

Like every other review I read on the roll-n-locks they are damaged in shipping. Smh

Replaced one Mickey Baja Boss 37. I put a non-leaking gash in the sidewall on a trail. It hadn’t failed yet, but was going to eventually, and I didn’t trust it. It’s now my 2nd spare in case there’s a stock issue in the next year or so. Then did a 5 way rotation in the driveway as I was as at 5k+since the last one. No I need to install my frame side LCA skids.

Edit. Frame side front and rear LCA skids are on. No rattles. Test drive went fine. Had to modify the rear passenger skid due to interference with the belly skid. Minor stuff with a cutting wheel and some paint.

Installed the Alpine speaker upgrade for the overhead soundbar. I bought the Alpine SPV-65-JLT from Crutchfield, as it was about $50 cheaper than Amazon, and Crutchfield includes the Metra adapters (Metra 72-6514), which are needed for the JTs (and JLs) that have the premium Alpine audio system. The instructions aren't the best. I've had to watch a couple YouTube videos and looked through forum threads.

Before:

I used the included template and a pick to trace the new pattern. This worked very well for me as a pen, pencil, or marker was harder to see (irregular surfaces). The scribe/pick leaves a good mark to see and feel.

To cut the hole, I tried a jigsaw, but it was much harder to control, especially with the soundbar still installed. Then I tried an electric hot knife, but it produced toxic fumes, and the cuts immediately fused back together (molten plastic). Instructions, YouTubers, and other forum members recommended a reciprocating air saw. Others have also removed the soundbar. I left mine in place and used a box cutter (utility knife) instead. It took a bit more muscle, but it made much less of a mess, and it took about 15-20 minutes per side

The template is not the best. I had to deviate and cut a bit more to avoid some awkward shapes. This is what the removed sections looked like. You can actually remove quite a bit more than what the template calls for. The new speaker's gasket just needs to have a surface to seal.

This is what the hole looks like. Yes, not pretty. If you have OCD (like me), turn away and don't think about how sausages are made.

The new Alpine speaker comes with a crossover. If you have premium audio, like mine, disconnect the wires from the woofer (just move them aside) and attach the Metra adapters.

Connect to the soundbar harness.

The resulting sound is AMAZING! Deeper, fuller bass, crisper highs, and looks great.

Going to jump in and try these. Made an offer on a new set and landed them for $339 on eBay. Ordered the harness another $9. I hope to try the utility knife method as well to avoid the mess. Maybe heating the plastic with a heat gun will soften it up a bit.

Just use a new, sharp blade and use slow "sawing" motion. Given that it is summertime, the plastic should be softer and easier to cut. I'm really happy with the sound of the speakers. Looks like you got a great deal on them. Good luck!

Just finished installing my speakers in the upper dash and in the overhead. Used Cerwin Vega H735 3.5" 2way coaxial speakers in the dash top and two in the overhead then two Cerwin Vega H740 4" 2 way coaxial speakers in the overhead. And I must say HOLY SHNIKIES !! What a difference , I used the Cerwin Vegas because as in my 20's I had that brand of speakers on my home stereo and sounded great so I gave them a try here and I am not disappointed ! I bought them here : https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item-135745-Cerwin-Vega-H735.html .ordered the speakers yesterday at around 2pm and they where at my door at 11:45 am today ! I will say one thing the harnesses for the two sets of H735's they do not have the right ones to fit the factory harnees . I have Wire end kits with hard shells and the tools so I had to make my own for those and also the rubber around the magnets are to thick and had to use a dremel with a drum sander to narrow two of them down a bit to have them fit in the overhead but in the dash they fit just fine !
I just love sound now Lots of Bass and great highs and lows . I just might end up tackling the Knee area here soon !

I got my afe hi tuck exhaust replaced today. I picked up new exhaust hangers for the local jeep dealer and ups delivered my exhaust. It didn’t take long. Now my vehicle drives good again with no shimmies and it’s not freaking straight piped either.

Are my radio geek panties showing? And why are underwear called pairs anyways?

Mounted it up front, non-US style because I want it to work better than reflecting signal off that almost vertical windshield frame. It was either up there or in the back by the tailgate. No roof options in Jeeps.

If you guys know radios you’ll know why it’s up front. Aussies would mount their HF antennas off the brush guard. Anyways, let’s see if it doesn’t drive me crazy. I can move it back.

And Mike hanger came in. This is a almost no holes drilled install. I drilled one on the inside portion of that tray to thread the control cable out of the dash. Not a fan of pinching control cable wires. And it’s out of view.

Bulletpoint tray in route. The antenna mount is the 1/2 hole one I had to drill out forthe UHF mount.

Radio is a dual band 2m/440/commercial (yes I’m a ham since 1995) with GMRS punched in. Easy instal. There’s a neat space under the steering wheel and 2 bolt holes conveniently there to use.
I’ll wrap it up tomorrow. Thinking of a better power distribution method off battery.
