Went to town today to get antifreeze for my travel trailer, while leaving tractor supply I decided to drive through the ford lot. Saw a f150 with the 3.5 twin turbo…. Hmm ? wonder what they would give me for my gladiator?? 43k with 36k miles on it. Dealer let me take it for the weekend to make sure I like it. I really love my gladiator. But it’s not reliable to me. Has not left me stranded by any means. It has had and currently has more issues than I find reasonable….service 4x4
service tc
service abs.
Def issue see dealer
wiring harness replaced
endless battery charging issues.
Ess not working “due to battery “
Oil leaking
Backup cam fell out… debatably not keeps fault. Now my jeep dealer has been great. Always gives me a loaner never try’s to place blame.
I’ve never owned a full size truck so I’m going to drive it a bit this weekend and see how she does as my daily.
We still have our 4xe for top and doors off fun but we tow our camper all over and are trying to plan our national parks tour so between my daily commute 122miles a day, and our travel needs I’m hoping this will fit the bill. New rig should I decide to buy has a 13k tow rating/tow package. Heated seats led lights all around, upgraded sound nice infotainment system power seats all kinds of power and tq. Also has the gay tailgate fold out step and handle.. I’m not that old yet!!
We will see but with my issues I’ve had and the fact it runs so damn hot I’ll probably make the switch.
I’ll likely still be around here to brake balls and or have mine broken lol.

With that experience I can't say I'd blame you.

If you can have both a Wrangler and a full size truck the JT doesn't make a lot of sense really.

I've got both. The F150s with the 3.5 are fantastic for pulling. The 5.0 is an ok puller too, just has to wind up. You hit the gas pedal on the 3.5 and when the turbo kicks in it is impressive.

Jeep Gladiator I think I’m moving on. Possibly 20210910_184501

I truly think all of us that tow often consider doing the same. I love the Jt and (thankfully) can’t/dont want to afford to make a swap.

But after realizing that by the end of my last trip in December my family would have camped nearly 55 total days of the year….and pulled thousands of miles…at some point a full size isn’t out of the question.

i have ZERO brand loyalty so im not throwing stones with this comment. Do your due diligence on an F150. Every single person I know thats had one over the last 10 year or so had some significant issues with them. Its PURELY anecdotal but i feel like the gmc sierra is a very solid truck.

As an owner of a 2dr JK, Gladiator, and full sized 3/4 ton I’ll caution you to make sure you are ok with a full sized truck as a DD. Tons of people do it but it can be a total PITA if you spend a lot of time in the city.

Be weary on f150s depending on the year. I’m a major ford guy and I personally would not own one from 2018-present. I would look toward a ram instead. The new fords and chevys have a lot of issues. Consumer reports for the most current year full size states they could only recommend the tundra and ram as good purchases due to all the issues every other manufacturer is having. My father had a 2018 f150 with the 5.0 and at 10k miles needed a motor replacement. He ended up trading for a 2019 with the 3.5 and upgraded to a lariat as well. At 65000 miles he just had to have both cams replaced. All were under warranty mind you, but still headaches. I have many co workers and friends who have had similar problems. The Silverado’s are even more problematic engine wise because of the lifter issues. I would highly recommend a ram, I traded my 2020 rebel for my JT and loved it.

New f150 or used?
If you can $43k for your used diesel gladiator that's something to consider.

As a current f150 owner, gladiator is way more fun to drive and to live with daily.

Before you go with the f150 check out the Ram, Chevy and new tundra. I personally couldn't stand my f150 once the newness wore off as it just felt so damn cheap.
