I’ve been lightly scouring the internet vehicle classifieds and found a nice diesel rubicon JT that’s fully loaded and has low miles. I tried to get the dealer to accept my offer at the end of June but they wouldn’t so I walked. They texted me last week because they still had it and wanted to know if I’d still deal and I said but I’ll only purchase the gladiator for $X. They still can’t make that number but they’re giving me ok value for my 2020.

This 2021 JTRD only has about 38k on it where my 3.6L is closing in on 90k and it still runs and drives like it’s brand new. Only the camshaft freaks me out about the long term of the 3.6, but they may have found a fix for that. Just trying to decide in the next week if I want to get it or not.
Also have you driven the diesel? Like up an on-ramp to gain speed? Seems like the diesel has tremendous bottom end grunt, but the one I drove after 4,000 seams to run out of breath, I did find I could gain more speed in manual mode short shifting at just over 4,000, that really helped the low end torque move the Jeep seemingly quicker than just foot to the floor in automatic.

The diesel redlines at 4500rpm, its peak torque comes in at 1400rpm (carrying steady through to 2800rpm), and horsepower peaks at 3600rpm.... there's really no reason to try to wind it out past 4000rpm anyway. Shifting at much lower rpm than what one's used to with a gas engine is the correct way to drive a diesel.

That right there.
My first experiences with diesels were interesting - what's wrong with this thing, it won't wind up - there's no power above xxx.
But when challenged by a fellow farmer on a pull test. I was thrilled for that really low RPM grunt.
He used his big JD 4x4 tractor which he constantly bragged about, took his chisel plow into the middle of his field, left it set deep in the ground, and unhitched.
I backed up to it with my Case, which at that time was the largest engine 2 wheel drive tractor they made as far as HP, and hooked up - hydraulics just in case I had to wave the white flag and lift it out of the ground first.
All hooked up - low gear, started moving, and soon let it shift up and pulled it from a dead stop, buried in the ground, all the way the other quarter mile+ to the corner of that field. Belching some black smoke, but it was an undeniable demo of the low end torque of a diesel.
I believe the top RPM of both my Case and IH diesels were in the low 2,000s - somehow I recall 1900-2400 being the top RPM of any diesel I owned at that time.

Can't speak to a 3.6 but just 4 months ago gave 64k for a 2021 Fully loaded Rubicon with gap, aftermarket warrant full 6 years 100k, and 5k i should never have paid for after telling the kid I didn't want the paint, glass, and interior protection but what the heck they threw it on and there I was when I went to pick it up. (How's that go, what the heart wants....) I had originally decided to wait till the other two were paid off. My wife's jlu sport and my 21 rubi.

Fully loaded and has the Mopar Gladiator Full Lift kit with 26k miles.

As for the Diesel, have 73k on my 2021 JLU Rubicon Diesel every option except the 1/2 doors including one touch. Only problem with it was the Trans Fully disintegrated at 35k miles. Brand new one put in. My best milage was in the beginning, got 29 on the highway consistently 27 around town.

Recently put Falken AT4s in 35". Now consistently 25 round town, 27 freeway, and 20/23 with our small 900lb 13'-5' tall enclosed utility trailer.

The Pavement Princess (Snazzyberry JT), came with Fuel 20" wheels and Grabber 35" 12/5 tires. I was getting 18-20 round town, got up to 24 on freway. I put my 65+k 33" Falken AT's on it and upped the milage to 22/23 round town and had it to 26 on freeway after a couple hours.

Very happy with adding the JT to the family so far. It had already received the FP fix before we got it. And no records from Jeep saying it blew up before replacement. what the heck, its only 950/month for 6 years, lol. Living the Life!!!

My first Gladiator was a 23 3.6L Gas and sold it and bought a 22 JTRD fully loaded. I would do it again. I personally love the diesel and love the torque it has over the Gas. When I am rock crawler in 4lo it pretty much crawls over everything and I have the extra torque when needed. It has the power to turn the 42 inch tires and still get great has mileage. Does it still have issues yes specifically with the DPF/DEF system and has left me in limp mode in the middle of nowhere. If you are looking at a Diesel take the money out of it and actually decided if you want a diesel because you want the diesel and then put the money back into it and see if it works. I love my diesel and would do it again. I would also check on the diesel and make sure it has had the HPFP recall done on it.

Don't make any decision on the fear of the internet/cams.
On the flip side, don't make a decision based on fear of the diesel issues, either.
Some have the diesel and have no no real issues - same for the 3.6 - millions of them out there with no problems at all.

There's guys here in this very forum well over 100,000 miles on a 3.6 with no problems.

So do it based on your needs or wants.

I'm one of them with over 100k on my 2020 gas 3.6. With regular oil and filter change before the 0% and oil analysis done for piece of mind.

Sticker price was $68k back in 2021 so I thought it was a little high too before that. I plan on asking about extended powertrain warranty.
My 2021 JTRD has 31+k miles. If I were to test drive anything costing around $40,000, I would not be anywhere near as happy as I am, when I’m driving my rig. I paid $66,480 new. Boatload of mods. Could’ve bought a really nice car for that price, but wouldn’t want another vehicle. Nor would any other vehicle be anywhere near as fun to drive.
The question is, in your case, is that JTRD worth $40,000 “to you” ?

I have a 14 Ram 2500 4x4 diesel so I know what's up. I have been thinking about trading my'22 JTR and getting the JTRD. Then swap much of my mods to it. What will swap. Tires and wheels, ARE camper, Front bumper and winch, Rock rails,
What won't , suspension, gears,
Just wondering if it's worth it. When did they stop with the diesel in the JT??? I hear the 3rd get is the best. It would be some work and wondering if it's a good idea.
