So, I don’t really want a tonneau cover on my truck, but with a kid on the way in the next few weeks, I am afraid that I am going to need a tonneau cover to haul stuff around… an anyone recomend a good truck bed cover for someone that does not want a truck bed cover? Is a soft topper going to be better suited for what I need?

TIA for any input!

Yes, with a kid you will need a tonneau. Strollers are huge, and while mine fit in the backseat, it was tight. Also not the kind of thing you'd want bouncing around back there with the baby in an accident.

I did not have a tonneau on my last pickup. I only bought one for the kid stuff on my jt, but having used one now I don't think I'll ever own another truck without a tonneau. Imagine packing for an airbnb vacation with the baby. All the big shit and little shit you'll need. Just no way to load up an uncovered bed for that. Can't secure every little thing with straps.

I went the super cheap route. Extang e series. Under 300 with discounts (pre-inflation so don't know now). Has held up well to moderate abuse for the past year.

I used one of the Mopar soft tri-folds until I got the RSI SmartCap. It worked well for me.

I really like my mopar tri-section hard-T. which I got with the truck. Of course pick one which works for you there is a wide variety...Not sure what downside you see, they add a lot of utility.

I hate that the last fold has to stay down, as there is no way to secure it up. I also still get water drips etc inside, even after adjusting. And the newest thing is that the rodents like chewing on the rubber seals. Guess what, mopar does not sell the seals separately (and no, there was and has not been any food or other things that could have attracted them).

I've had a Tyger on mine for three years, no issues.

Bed never wet, and cheap!

Mine came with a coverking folding hard tonneau. Really like it. It is not super secure but it is a far cry better than either an open bed or a soft cover. It also does allow some water intrusion in a significant rain, though mine has been pretty solid about not letting too much in. I like that it also cleans up the look and laughable aerodynamics :CWL: of the bed area.

We use it regularly when traveling to hold luggage and other stuff. I can also fold up sections to load and unload. It is also foldable for when I need to carry something larger in the bed. If really large, such as a set of tires, it doesn’t take much to remove the folding sections entirely and then re-install when I’m done.

How about Decked drawers

I have the decked system…. It’s niche for sure….. would I buy it again?? Absolutely not.

Before our canopy and decked system we had the gator soft folding cover from Amazon. $150 you can’t beat it. Kept everything in the back dry which is why we had it.

Ill throw in my 2 cents here as I am in a similar boat with my JT. Ive had numerous trucks with various tonneau configurations. May last truck, an F150, came with a Bakflip tri-fold. I loved having it on the truck, with the only downside being lack of visibility with the panels folded up into the back glass. Having the dry lockable storage was awesome. A friend of mine has the Bak revolver, which is a hard roll up cover. I think i prefer over it the flip for ease of use and visibility. That said, I have had issues choosing a tonneau for the JT bc I really enjoy the open bed space. Unlike my F150, its easy to reach in over the sides to place and retrieve items. I think a cheap roll up is in my future as I can roll/stow it easily enough for the open bed feel and use it when needed. That said, I haven't quite decided on my "bed accessories" just yet. Some tonneaus don't work with specific racks, so its been a tough choice. I suppose Id feel less bad about not using a cheap tonneau over spending Bak money on something, only to remove and store in the garage.

I have a hard trifold cover that I love. If I need to carry something big, it isn't too hard to remove. I wouldn't drive around without one.
