I found myself in a precarious situation late last night. I stopped by Windrock on my way back to Florida and completed a couple easy trails because it was all at night, was wheeling alone, and I haven’t added additional skid plates, lifter tires. I just completed Trail G 40 which is an out and back and I was sitting at the intersection of G 40 and G2. When I got a ding on my dash I looked up and a message said my DPF was almost full. The problem was I had quite a ways to get back to the general store so I could air up and get back on the road. The issue was I was at some decent elevation and essentially I was coasting downhill the majority of the way, which I don’t believe aids in the regeneration process. I’m not sure how close I was to going into limp mode or having it shut off on me, or potentially doing damage to the DPF filter, after I aired up it took about 15 minutes at 45 and 50 miles an hour at a low gear to force about 2000 RPM.

When it does that, it's actually a good thing that you had a ways to still go. Shutting it off at that point would have given you problems, rather than driving

I wouldnt have been too worried about it, as long as you dont shut it off. I drive a lot of very short trips throughout my day and when that message pops up it isnt practical to drive for another 15-20 minutes for a regen because ill be at my destination in 30 seconds. After the 3rd or 4th time ill give in and jump on the highway for a regen and ive never had any warnings regarding a limp mode.

I too drive 95% short distances, what you would call city driving. I've seen those messages a total of twice in almost 15,000 messages.

The first time I had to jump on the highway anyways and drove an extra exit down the road and it went away before I got there.

The second time I was driving in the City and in heavy traffic. It stayed on for about 15 minutes and then said it was complete.

I would say as long as the engine is running, it should help to complete the process. Afterall, it's still dumping extra fuel into your cylinders and the unburnt bits go onto the DPF causing extreme heat cleaning the environmental contaminates that were contained in the filter and spilling them into the get this... the environment anyways.

Happens when too many active regens are interrupted and DPF soot level is high. Prevents you from taking to a dealership to do a forced regen.
Having a Scangauge helps. You know how much is a soot level and whether you are in an active regen or not. An active regen usually does not take more than 5-10 minutes. Will also give you an idea to when to shut down the engine if the turbo is too hot.

I have my iDash gauge set up to monitor my soot level and when it goes into passive or active regen.

I used to have it setup like that but then I got the eclicks and iDash won't share OBD so it's basically useless. I need to find an alternative monitoring solution.

To use both. Need to use a s OBD splitter.

Its not ODB its the CAN that is the issue. Banks does not play too nicely with other canbus sensors.
