We used it last Spring on a trail in George Washington National Forest, climbing from Switzer Lake to Flag Pole Knob, and it was great. We didn't need it for the traction, but it's a long trail and once you get your ground speed set to where you want it you can just cruise along and enjoy the scenery.
All you fancy 8-speed folks... I just repurpose this for my "Select Speed"

Put the transfer case in 4Lo, and push the button on the dash that looks like it’s for a hill descent mode…
It’s covered in the manual.

Kevin
That's what that button does! I thought it was for help on a steep hill decent.

That's actually a pretty clever use-case. Kind of like the Toyota Crawl Control. I'll have to remember that next time I'm in some tough snow.

Good information to know. I had forgotten about this feature.

I love it. I have yet to use it in any real situations. Just playing around. From what i have dont with it it worked great. My buddy has a really soft dirt/sandy spot on his little plot and i can get further using it the mad dogging it though that's fun too.

I tried it out right after I got my JT, on a long gravel, clay and sandy road that twisted up and down a steep hills in Bankhead N.F. with it. It would make a amateur look like a pro driver in many terrains. I've not tried it in snow or ice and really not wanting to. ? too damn cold.

Exactly! Jeep for some reason doesn't promote this feature to the extent that Toyota promotes their system. Cool that it works both ways (up/down).

The Selec-Speed will apply throttle & brakes as needed to maintain the selected speed.
I’d tested it before, but this is the first time I really used it. It worked great!

Kevin
Awsome report! There is nothing like a Jeep in the "wild"!

I've never tried it, not too many significant hills here, but did you do much or any shifting with the "M-Mode"?

That too.
I thought it was for when your in the mountains on an interstate when you have like a 9% - 13% grade down hill in 2wd. This is only for 4 Low. Now I wish I was in Buffalo for that 5 feet of snow so I could have gone out and tried it!
