Good morning all,
I wanted to reach out for some input, as I have looked online for something comparable, and found nothing in my area. I will likely be selling my JTR to accomplish some family financial goals, AND my 17 year old got into a very low speed fender bender, so insurance is about to put me through the wringer at renewal. Either way, I wanted to get some input on private party pricing. Looking up the truck in my area, the mid range private party comes in at about $45K. Obviously that doesn't include aftermarket investment, and I really don't have the time to remove/uninstall everything to part out. Here's what I have:
2020 billet silver JTR hard top (painted) with the Alpine package and adaptive cruise, with approximately 54,000 miles. Never been buried in the FL mud, never been in an accident. Body/paint is virtually perfect with the exception of a small ding behind rear driver side door and a small pinstripe on the front driver fender. Interior is Black/Red Leather and virtually flawless. Here's what's been done:
  • 3.5" RC lift
  • 37" BFGs on 17" XD wheels (tires have about 80% tread life)
  • 37" spare
  • Dual steering stabilizer
  • K&N intake
  • KC cowl lights
  • Rugged Ridge Arcus front bumper with hoop
  • Smittybilt 10K winch with synthetic rope
  • Armorlite flooring
  • Pedal Commander
  • CB with antenna mount in the radio mount location
  • Rear bumper LED lights
  • Terra Acoustics front speaker upgrade
  • BedRug Bed mat sitting over spray liner
  • ARE color matched fiber glass topper with carpeted interior that matches Bed mat
  • Interior molle panels next to driver and passenger center console
  • Black Thinskins rear door skins
  • Bullet point Rubigrid dual cell phone/device holders with GoPro mount
  • Includes Superchips flashcal, sunshade, and Mopar cover for when the top is off
I'm probably missing a few minor things but this is what I can think of off the top of my head. I was thinking somewhere around $50K? I'm biased, of course, so I wanted to get some input from you folks. Thoughts?

Here are a couple of pics of the exterior. One thing to note is that I pulled off those door steps- they were pieces of shit.

aftermarket parts should generally be viewed as worthless when you're trying to resell if you leave them on the truck. Reason being for every part someone might want, there's another they don't.

For example, say i really liked your truck (i do) and i was in the market to buy it (i'm not). There are things that I would need to replace/sell right away:

The lift. I'm just not an RC guy, sorry. That's money I need to spend right after buying to get the truck the way I want it.
The topper. Looks beautiful, matches 100%, but it's a really expensive piece of kit to not suit my needs.
Thinskins. Just no use for me.
K&N Intake. No thanks for K&N anything

Now, everyone is different. Maybe someone loves your RC lift and ARE topper, but doesn't like your cowl lights and bumper/winch. Or maybe someone prefers carpeted flooring for some insane reason.

The point is, unless you can find the perfect buyer (how many yous are there in the world), the odds of getting top dollar are slim because you're selling someone a job, and that job is to fix what they don't like and resell it/scrap it.

My advice would be to leave the largest and most expensive and easily(ish) removable piece out of the equation. List the truck at 50k without the topper with a note that that topper can also be had for another 3k or whatever you think you can get for it.

Trust me, I understand the whole idea of aftermarket being circumstantial in terms of finding the right buyer. When I sold my heavily customized Harley a few years back, I took a gamble on that and it paid off. Sold for full listing price within 2 weeks. Brands, customization choices, etc. aside, I'm just looking for a fair/justifiable asking price assuming this is just what someone's looking for. I know they are out there, because I've been approached multiple times to see if I would sell it. Timing is everything.... I appreciate the input

Beautiful rig! The only thing I would say is the mileage is a tad high, but other than that, I'd list it for 55K w/o the topper (sell it outright or let buyer know it's available). Mine is similar (although w/o much of the mods you list) and I'm thinking of listing mine at $55K but it only has 14K miles on it. Good luck, but I say if you can get in the 50-55K range (maybe 52k-55K w/topper), you're making bank.

I'd say try 50k OBO. It's tough because at 13% off MSRP (6% off invoice) a 2023 newly built Rubi optioned out with the hard top, auto and advanced safety group is $52k with a full warranty... If the aftermarket parts were best-of-breed, it might be worth trying a bit more but it could sit for awhile.

Contrary to what most others say I do think aftermarket parts add to SOME value. Not a ton because like pointed out already some parts might be trash, or very poor quality, or installed incorrectly causing damage. In my case, I sold a fully rebuilt and built OBS for 10K more than what the market had which was already 5K more than KBB. That being said it was built.

what I always tell folks who are mad about that is this “well then feel free to go buy yourself a cheaper one that is stock and do all these mods yourself”. In my particular case I had over 55K into the truck not counting the cost of the truck itself, sold it for 26K. It was a steel for the buyers but they also knew what they were getting.

All that being said, these are the only things I would consider that should add value
  • Rugged Ridge Arcus front bumper with hoop
  • Smittybilt 10K winch with synthetic rope
  • Armorlite flooring
  • BedRug Bed mat sitting over spray liner
  • ARE color matched fiber glass topper with carpeted interior that matches Bed mat
other parts are negligible or lower in quality than what theyre worth IMO. And even the winch is so-so

having a asking price of 50K but expecting lower is a good plan. If the aftermarket parts were higher quality then I would put it up for more. Thats also considering the used vehicle market is starting to crash.

Honestly I'd say you would get $5k above the listed private party value, so $50k. Most of the mods unfortunately don't add much value. They replaced something else that was already there, so the net benefit especially during a sale is overall pretty negligible.

You'd have to get just the right buyer at just the right time on just the right day after just the right amount of time to get $55k. And you'd have to hook 'em quick before they looked around more. Everyone will ask if you're willing to sell it, but that rarely means they're looking to make a fair offer on it. Once you start talking cash, they'll quickly go quiet.

Couldn't you sell the Bronco instead of the JT ??? Just kidding good luck on the sale. It will be interesting to see what you get as I really don't want to part with mine but the opportunity to retire early could come into the picture in a year but it might put me in a position where I would have to sell my JT to get rid of the note and just become a 1 car family for a while. Guess these things are all stuff we have to think about one time or another. Please to let us know if you ever get a good deal on it

I think you’re in the ballpark. I’d list a little higher than than what you want out of it realistically and negotiate not below that point. With a truck this expensive I’d like to think you won’t get as many tire kickers, but then again, I’d probably be surprised.

Agreed.... two reasons...
1. I'm a Jeep guy, so I'd ditch the non-Jeep first.
2. Broncos seem to be in more of a demand right now than Jeeps, so you could get a much better return on investment with it.

Haha- the Bronco is my wife's primary and she waited months and months for it to come out. It's also newer, less miles, cheaper to insure, and I want her in something that she's comfy in, and reliable. We have a total of 4 rides here, and the JTR is also the most expensive on insurance. Just started breaking in my motor on the 1966 GMC, so that may be my primary for a while since I work from home. If/when it sells, I'll definitely let the forum know, in case anyone else can use it as a point of reference.
