Who Wants to Compare Personal Property Taxes? [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

Not even sure what you are trying to compare here. Thread says personal property taxes (which means your home), but I see people posting their gladiator license plate tabs for various states

So I guess I'll play along.
in Michigan, my gladiator license plate tags are $190 a year but our 2 homes (1 primary residence and 1 cottage on the great lakes), is a combined amount of about 7K per year.
Michigan sales tax on boats, cars, trucks, etc is 6%.

The OP is in Virginia. In addition to paying sales tax when you buy a vehicle, VA has a tax every year on the value of any car, truck, motorcycle, trailer, Rv or boat you own. He‘s not talking about tags, real estate, etc. it’s a tax every year in addition to tags, etc.

So you are saying there's an annual registration fee for the license/plate/registration plus a personal property tax that isn't connected to it being registered/licenses to drive on the highways?

Here it's a combined thing - your annual license/registration fee is based on the value and the weight.

Correct. When you buy the car, 4.15% sales tax is paid, then every year you pay tax on the value of the same vehicle, in addition to registration fees. In the OP he’s paying $675 every 6 months in tax, just for owning the truck, and as he noted, that’s in a rural (lower rate) area. In some areas of VA it would be almost double. Thats for his 1 truck alone. It can get crazy if you have a few cars.

Thankfully we have 0% Personal Property and State Sanctioned Theft Income Tax here in the Free State of Florida.

We do however have to spend some extra on AC, mosquito repellent and sun screen at a 7% Sales Tax.

And high property taxes. No state income tax though so in many cases it’s still a savings.

I have lived in some of the highest taxed counties in Texas and Arizona as well, and feel like it's a better deal here in the Fun-shine State.

We also don't get Taxed* on Vehicle Emmissions every year.

No property taxes on vehicles. Registration for 2 years is about $130.00 per vehicle. Both the Gladiator and the Wrangler are covered until 2024. When I was in California, vehicle registration was well over $700 per year for my 2018 Tundra and $650 for my 2019 4Runner. I was so glad to move. Now, I pay less for auto insurance and registration for all of my vehicles than I paid to register the 2018 Tundra in California.

Typically, my area is pretty low on taxes, so I'm curious as to how this compares to others.

WTH is personal property tax? In Wisconsin the only tax you pay for property is land/home.. annually. You already paid the tax once when you bought the truck.

in VA you get the pleasure of paying tax when you buy it, and tax on the value of it every 6 months….

Shit, I’m gonna have to pay these in Massachusetts when I move there next month. I’ve never even heard of this type of tax until OP posted it. $25 per one thousand dollars of vehicle value if I’m reading correctly for Worcester, MA.

If we are talking tags, In Fl my JT is 45.60 a year ,2005 TJ is 38.60. My 2016 Harley is 24.10. It is based on weight so the tag on a new vehicle and a 10 year old one is the same.

The COUNTY collects the personal property tax.
