Has a hybrid engine that will eat a jeep and also a couple models have a disconnecting sway bar . Ppl don't buy Tacoma nor gladiator because they need something to tow behind it lol. By a full size if you need towing
I disagree. I had a full size, and 1 ton truck. I like the Gladiator for towing the best due to it's size. Is it the best vehicle for towing - nope. Does it get great fuel mileage when towing - not so bad actually. Do you get the right to tell people why they bought products - NOPE. Your opinion is well noted as YOUR opinion.

Only Toyota you will find a ZF in is the current Supra that is a shared build with BMW. Everything else they use is either in house or a Aisin derived transmission.
The Supra isn't even a "shared build". Toyota has some say in the design, but the car/build is 100% BMW. It rolls off the same BMW assembly line as the Z4 (at the Magna Steyr plant actually). Nothing else in the rest of Toyota's lineup uses ANYTHING from the Supra - except possibly the Toyota badge... literally the only thing Toyota made for the Supra.

I actually think the 8.4 is perfect, the on in the Taco is overkill. Again that is just my opinion, but it looks like it was an afterthought. I like how flush and integrated the 8.4 looks in my Gladdy.
You know what looks like an afterthought? The Ford bronco Raptor fenders!!!!! Damn, they look like shit

Honestly, this has me interested. I will prob go test drive one and see how it feels but in all honesty, the Trail Hunter model blows the Gladiator out of the water for features and I say that as a Jeep nut hugger. It just seems like they have put a lot more thought into things that actually benefit the user. Like the bed lighting, and integrated air compressor, snorkel, big in-bed outlet, inverter, ridged for lights that can do amber and white the list goes on.

I do think off-road the Jeep will still be better when things get rough but I like to look at things in an overall way on how much use you will get out of each perk. My only real gripe with the Toyota that they did seem to mess up since the model is aimed at overlanders is the lack of a front locker.

I also don't like how it is so hard to fit bigger tires into Toyota but I don't know if that will be the case with this model so I will hold my judgment on that.

Either way if the price is not outlandishly wild on that model i will be looking into it.

I really don't think the Gladiator competes with other mid size trucks. It really is in its own segment. It is a Wrangler with a bed and a fully removable or convertible top. It still has a solid front axle, which ultimately is the best for off-road use. It has all the cool oddities of the Wrangler including the external hood latches, external hinges, removable doors, fold down windshield. You get speakers in the roof and power window switches in the console. These are endearing traits - because the Wrangler / Gladiator have personality, while all the other midsize trucks, and indeed full size trucks, have none. The fact that your run of the mill Gladiator can tow 6,000lbs and has a useful 5 foot bed is icing on the cake. This Tacoma is probably a nice truck - if you are into just another boring midsize. I'd rather have the Jeep.

I would say a Tacoma is a lot more capable than a Maverick. At that point might as well compare everything to a prius for most people. The point is, a Tacoma will go anywhere you want, just don't do serious rock crawling. Which most people on here don't do.
If the maverick had a rear locker it would pretty much be as capable as a stock TRD pro taco. Compared to regular model Tacomas theyre probably pretty damn close

I did. I tow stuff right at the limit. Wanted a truck that wasn't too big, could have fun in, was affordable (max tow full sizes can be close to 70k).

My max tow gladiator is a farm truck. regularly has dirt or rocks in the bed. Has a rack setup for easy removal or addition of solar panels and the largest dometic fridge freezer they made for farmers markets keeping ice ready for swap out into the greens display.

I'll get a full size when I move into steer production. Gladiator does everything I need well without compromises.

I feel you. I was given a $40K new Tacoma last week and it went straight to the crusher.

You have been joking but I wasn't.
I wouldn't want someone else to have to get punished by a piece of trash Tacoma.

I'm in the same boat as you.

I suspect that since ARB is involved as is, they likely already have an e-locker in the works for the hardcore off-roaders. Fairly certain that Toyota has never offered a factory front locker in the Taco.

I don't think they have either but what more of a perfect chance than now making this new offroad dedicated model? The same goes for the larger tires after more research the lead engineer said you would have to modify just to even run 35s. Just seems so thoughtless of them to miss those things on this model but I am still interested to see more of this thing

Was definitely thinking of lifted AMC Eagles as well seeing the Prius photos. I don't see too many Eagles around Montana anymore, but when I do they're on 37s+ ?

I love the "high clearance" front bumper. I hate the "low" clearance stock one. I'd be down for at least test driving a TRD Pro (knowing that I'm one of the people who never off roads - but I love the aggressive look of said vehicle). I also probably wouldn't give up my Gladiator for the Taco.
Now if they treat the 4Runner in the same way as the Taco... I'd be tempted to look at it more seriously but with the knowledge that I'm trying to lower my average monthly spending and not increase it - and it would absolutly be more expensive.
