Anybody have any experience with the Mopar prepaid oil plans? I’m considering the 2 year (3 oil change) plan for $480. Are these plans set pricing? Or can they be negotiated with a dealer? Any downside beside having to fork out the $ up front?

It's not cheap, but renewing your Jeep Wave membership is one of the less expensive ways to buy prepaid oil changes.

Do your own oil changes.
The dealerships put the new guys on them.
I have a good relationship with the dealer (specifically one of the techs). So I’m less concerned about who is doing the oil change from the trust equity I have built.

I was planning on doing my own after my Wave changes were done. But now that I priced the oil and filter I’m starting to think $160 each is not a bad price to have them deal with the hassle and potential warranty claim proof of doing my own.

How much do you spend to do an oils change? I figured $65-70 for the filter, another $90 or so for the oil. $160 for the dealer to do it (and tire rotation) doesn’t seem as bad to save me the hassle of disposing the oil and my time.

Maybe.
I document all of mine in my garage on the Jeep site, and I send samples to Blackstone, so them disputing my near religious maintenance would be a challenge for them.

Oil - $28
Filter - $11
Analysis - $35
Edit - I just noticed this was in the diesel section. I'm sorry for your loss. LOL)

Oh, and my dealership was my customer for 15 years, before I retired.
I still don't trust them when the vehicle rolls out of sight.
I've seen things while I was in the shop. Things I can't unsee.

I reluctantly actually did this on mine. Like @Lunentucker said, more often than not the unskilled new kids get put on oil changes all day long. But a couple things with that. Everybody has to learn some day. I had to learn...by doing oil changes and tire rotations - and ended up being a senior master tech before leaving. There is a risk taken.

However - for me it was purely financial. I did the lifetime oil via lithia - which is spread out throughout the range of where I will live for the foreseeable future. If you look at the cost of oil over the last 15 years, it more than pays for itself in time - of course assuming nothing goes bad. But, if something does go bad, it's on them to fix. So, I think the better question is how much do you trust your locally accessible dealer to do a good job? That seems to vary widely based on various experiences folks here have had.

I think in my local market - if I did my own oil change it would be pushing 100 bucks. So aside from being able to take an oil sample to analyze, theres not a lot of savings. Plus the pain of crawling on the ground, and disposing of used oil.

This right here is reason 1 of 2 why I quit many years ago.....

So having them do your services is a risk no doubt - just depends on how much risk you want to take vs how much money you want to try and save.

When I had my 2018 Ram Ecodiesel, I had all my oil changes, except for two, done at the dealership. My Ecodiesel exploded 6,000km out of warranty. Since, of those two oil changes that I did myself (even though documented with pictures and receipts), Chrysler left me high and dry. This was after I had it in under warranty with a low oil pressure warning with 3,000km left in my warranty (9,000 km before it blew up)... When I was fighting with them to get my engine replacement covered, they said they would have covered it, even though it was out of warranty, if they did all the maintenance.

I bought my 2022 Gladiator with the oil change plan. I know that some under qualified kid will likely do a shitty job doing the oil change but it's the only way to be 100% sure your warranty will be honored. Doing it yourself, while better for your own piece of mind, Chrysler can say tough shit for your engine warranty because no matter how well documented, they were not in control of the oil changes on your vehicle.

I bought the oil change (and tire rotation package). I did the math and at the time when I purchased it, it was pretty much exactly the same price as if I bought the oil changes individually. But since then, prices have sky rocketed so It's cheaper for me now.

That is not so. We can do our oil changes and it not affect our warranty. Documentation helps however. You clearly had an oil pressure issue by it indication or an actual pressure problem. I would have fought that for sure. Now maybe that is what you are talking about, not having to deal with it.
I think is it rare to have issues with having the dealer change your oil. That beening said, I have had 2 issues. I pass on the free now.

@Bad Karma is from Canada. They do not have same consumer protection like we do in the states or have an equivalent law like we do with the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act.

My observation from some of the other Canadian members is that they get hosed pretty regularly from Jeep/Stellantis Canada and rarely get "Goodwill" coverage for being just out of warranty for such things.

I am sorry this is how they are treated in Canada. Still seems like Jeep would make things fair across different markets. ?

Note to self... stay out of Canada.

I think that can depend on the dealer though. We've already seen a few cases where dealers have flat out denied doing warranty work for people.

not sure about others but I paid just under 1K. But that is a lifetime oil plan for any lithia dealer. Lifetime.... What was the cost of oil/filter 20 years ago?

Forgot until looking at my paperwork I also got the permaplate windshield protection and the other day cleaning the windshield I saw several pits where stones had impacts and it defiantly has been holding up.

Apparently I also got the service plan. But I recall the idea here was I just flat out was tired of doing my own services on that big old truck in 0 degree temps in the winter. hopefully it all pays off in time.

That doesn’t seem to be such a great price. I have the dealer plan, got it thrown in at purchase. However, every time I go into the dealer they seem to have a $70 oil change sale. They really want to get you in there and try to upsell you additional services.
